Just go ingame, press the map key and screenshot. It's the easiest way I can think of.

there where a series of commands you could enter to get a topdown view of the entire map of wich you could take a screenshot of....
i thought it contained something with developer 1
if anyone knows those commands, i can make those overvieuws myself

make yourself a link to your them exe and let the command liner ead the following:
X:\Your setup\steam.exe -applaunch 70 -game ns -dev +map Mapname

The mapname is written without the bsp, like in amx (ns_eclipse, ect)

Then double click on the link, it should then start ns and load up the map, disoplaying developer stuff at the top.
When you are ingame and in the RR oben console (with ^ usually) and type : "dev_overview 2" without the "s
You now see the map from above without entities and everything that is not map in bright green.
Make sure you have AA disabled or things get messy if you want to take a screen.
Not hit "print screen" quit ns and open paint, or whatever you like.
The press "strg-v" and there is your picture. now you can change the green to an nicer colour.
if you had AA enabled it will look bad if you change the background.

would it be possible to make minimaps out of these?

I don't see why you would IMHO... The default ones are better suited to contrast against the map, making it easier to see. I suppose you could, though.

Not easily, no. You have a 255 max color pallete (not 256 cause you'd still need to reserve one color for transparency), and I would guess that trying to scale the overview down to the popupmap size would probably drive you insane as you tried to get everything to lineup. And it'd probably be extremely hard to see some of the icons that NS draws over the popupmap, because of the colors that'd be involved.

I used to make a nice set of out of the overviews that others in this thread are showing, and those potentially were the ones you had seen (though others had created some as well), but I haven't updated them since Beta5, and I don't see myself working on them at all anymore.

Maybe it could be possible to do them faded-out style, so that contrast is still there (between map and icons/players), but so is the colour for those who want it?

i have to say i prefer a dark grey as background, that way you see the outlines of low lit areas vents, ect better.
Additionally its usually better to add text in, ect.

People also used to add in nice little grahics to show where all the hives, resources, and weldables were along with a legend of all the area names. But those guys had a lot of time on their hands.

Hm. The guy who makes them has another homepage so these may be out of date, but I haven't got the url for his site.
