Of course, the PSX controller was originally the SNES controller with two extra shoulder buttons and handles to grip with. Don't forget that Sony stole the analog stick idea, as well as the rumble feature, from Nintendo. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

There were several games where I wanted to be able to use it (partly because the analog stick got tiring after a while). I do recall wanting to use it in Goldeneye and one of the Turoks. I didn't play the system much; I didn't actually own it. I only played with friends, and each time I did, I kinda wished I was playing the PlayStation back at home.

New pick of the Revolution (new to me at least):

    <img src='http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n10/e3_2005/revo/large_img/revo_7l.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Looks like my controllers and memory cards will work fine. I haven't seen any ports like this on the PS3, so I'm guessing that Sony wants you to buy an adapter (evil).

Now that's snazzy. What about our GameBoy Players? Any serial ports, or do we have to buy another?

Man, I feel bad: I was going to mention how I really thought having the ports at the top was a bad idea. If it's set up in an entertainment system, chances are it'll be higher than the floor. If that's the case, there's a good chance that the cables for the controllers will be bent at an angle greater than if the controller ports were put at the front of the box. Also, this method requires more vertical space, pretty much nullifying the smaller size. Finally, because the controllers are at the top, I could see this causing a lot problems with people tripping over the cables (you know they will). Instead of it being pulled out of the ports, it'll just stretch, tear, bend pins, or knock the entire system over onto its face. This is a bad idea, but by now people probably think I'm just grumpy.

Even though it's not intended, wouldn't it be possible to just lay the system on its side?

Let me repeat this for everyone who missed it:

All 3 consoles will work both vertically and horizontally.

Also, you only need to use those ports if you're using Gamecube controllers or memory cards.

Of course, you could just lay the console flat or something crazy whenever you wanna play a Gamecube game.

Just like the PS2 was meant to be vertical, except no one used it that way? When I get mine, I'm laying it on its side.

Also, here are some Nintendo videos that download <b>fast</b>:

Check out Zelda, Metroid Prime Hunters DS, the New Super Mario Brothers DS title, Battalion Wars, and the Kirby 4 player SuperStar-style GC title. Also, look at Odama for what looks like a RTS/Pinball hybrid game.

    EDIT:Ahem.

I like how all the next-gen consoles are starting to look more and more like a computer.

Maybe us PC gamers just figured out that a computer was the best bet long before all these console gamers...

Maybe it's just me, but that glow-y blue bit looks photoshopped in. I'm not sure why, it just doesn't seem to meld with the black around it like a LED-type glow usually does.

...I'd also like to point out: for the first 20 or so stars in Mario I used the analog stick by having my hand on the left d-pad handle...thing. Maybe my hands are just freaking huge.

I'm not sure if you've noticed this, but computers are highly modifiable, and the disc trays are in a horizontal posistion, despite the vertical appearance of the tower. Consoles are not intended to sit on, under or in a desk; they are intended as TV appliances like VCRs, DVD players, TiVos, Stereos, etc. They do not have the breadth to have a horizontal disc tray while stationed vertically. They do not have the base to be sturdy in a vertical posistion on their own. They do not have the component size and weight required for a space saving design (as almost all entertainment centers feature horizontal spaces for the afforementioned devices). They do not look cooler in a vertical posistion. They do not (or should not) require the heat dissipation surface area implicit in a vertical posistion. They do not have a myriad of wires connecting various devices, which require distance between them (Printer cable = huge). They do not have mutliple disc drives, stacked on top of each other, facilitating the ability to mount each drive seperately (which would invariably be impossible with vertical drives).

    ...Any more questions?

First I am going to buy this damn thing.

Then I am going to string it and hang it from my ceiling.

Then I am going to turn around and moon my computer monitor.

As soon as I buy this machine, I will attempt to make babies with it.

Anyways, at the worst case of the Rev not having any solid launch titles, you could always buy the new Zelda, which I'm sure will be godly.

If the backwards compatibility is true, well executed and fairly cheap to use, I'm dangerously close to breaking my "no consoles" rule. As for the design; meh. As long as it works well, it can look like something someone threw up for all I care.
