Not ashamed to admit that Darth Vader's first breaths gave me chills. Though that all went away as soon as he got up and yelled "NOOOOOOOO" as if in some awkward B-Movie.

The movie had some pretty rediculous points, and used possibly some of the worst cliches in cinema today ("we don't know what's wrong... she's just... lost the will to live") but it was quite awesome overall.

Keep in mind, he's also one of the strongest Jedi (/Sith) ever, and that the younglings have much much less training.

I thought it was good, just got back from the midnight showing, and it made me sad to see Jar-Jar Binks alive in the end.

Other than that, it was pretty good.

Oh dear, how could I forget this moment of stitches! Baby takes his first, stiff, steps, then, in that voice we've all come to know and love, "NooooOOOOOoooOOOOOOooooo!". It just doesn't sound right when Darth Vader screams "NooooOOOOOoooOOOOOOooooo!", the voice is just too deep and...too Darth Vader-like. He should never have screamed "NooooOOOOOoooOOOOOOooooo!".

EDIT: And oh, I actually noticed a mistake. When they go to apprehend Grievous and he makes his escape out of the...window...(cliché, even if it was a battle cruiser window)...the shields come down and cover all the windows. When the Jedi make their crash landing the camera zooms in through the *glass* to see them sitting on the bridge. I think.

Agreed.

Affix elbows to hips. Bend back. Wave forearms about. Yell "NOOOOOOOOOOO".

It could've been done much better by having Vader bend some big steel girder with the force, making a similar sound much more awesomely.

I do believe it does show some of the windows sealed over by the metal plate. I'm not sure if it was supposed to come down over all of them though, so I could just be horribly mistaken.

Yea but you have to keep in mind Darth Vader has only been in his robot suit for about 10 seconds, he doesn’t know how ridiculous he sounds yelling things with emotion yet.

That's still the angst filled Anakin under that thing and he still loved Padme.
• BloodySlothBloodySloth Join Date: 2003-08-27 Member: 20284Members
Yeah, but it's a movie. If it looks/sounds utterly laughable, no matter how realistic the situation is given the circumstances, it should best be left out.

However, the construction of Vader (especially the mask) was brilliant. I dont know how they could have possibly done that better.

Overall I liked it but there were a few times the acting was just shallow, I mean, when Padame tells Anakin she's pregnant they have a little discussion like a couple of 17 year olds "OMG WHAT DO WE DO?!" "DUNNO!"

Also, why the hell does Greivous cough :\ They never explained that

I don't get you. I thought that the movie was total ownage. The special effects were unbelievable, the plot was outstanding, as it tied the entire saga together, and the musical score was utterly amazing. I would watch it again just for the special effects and music.

I said that like 10 times during this movie. After every major person died, and after every frickin awesome use of the Force (Yoda owning the guards comes to mind).

I have to say, a lot less of the movie was crappy dialogue than people say. Hell, there was hardly any dialogue in the last 45 minutes. Way more than 15% of the movie was action, though I have to say it got a little sluggish in the middle; I was starting to worry that the romantic story was going to take over the entire movie. It was nice how the romance was just there as a "kicker" for the action, then everything else fell into place.

The only thing that really disappointed me was that I didn't get to hear the Imperial March. I mean, I heard it as an undertone in certain places, but never the full grandiose song.

Damn. You people really make me want to see this film despite having my wallet and mind violated (twice) by Lucas and Episodes I & II. When I get back, expect me to lie about hating it and questioning the judgement of everyone who has posted in this thread (including myself).

However, ignore this and assume that I secretly liked it.

I've always liked the prequel trilogy (although my like of Episode 1 is based pretty much soley upon Darth Maul kicking so much ****, his fight scenes are the greatest things ever), and Episode 3 is by far the best one. Nearly everything about it owns so much, and I'm glad to say that the apprehensions I had based on the trailer (the way some dialogue was cut together and that seemingly ridiculous "obi wan and anakin swinging past each other on a wire" fight) were proven to be false.

Some things niggled at me though... the droid voices, for one. They were Upped to take the place of Jar Jar, I felt. They were gone from being just a monotone "fucntional" voice for the robots in to turning them into comic relief... It just bugged me.

I loved the Greivous cough, which was a really good tie-in to Clone Wars, especially since it doesn't really make any difference to the plot or anything, so it just shows it was there soley to please the fans, which was cool.

I was disappointed with Mace Windu's fight, it just seemed... boring. More like the fight scenes from the original trilogy (just slow and ponderous rather than the really fast scenes that the rest of the pre-trilogy is filled with), but the Obi Wan vs Anakin fight MORE than made up for it (at least it would have if a really annoying little girl behind me wasn't complaining, at the top of her voice, that it was "too fast!" and she "couldn't see anything!").

I saw the Millenium Falcon, yeah. But it's debatable if it actually IS the Falcon, as there's bound to be more than one ship of that type around (he says he modified it, but all his modifications are hidden, so you can't tell from the outside). And i've got to say I smiled a little when I first saw Bail's Blockade Runner ship, especially when we see the interior.

I wasn't much a fan of Darth's "Noooooooo!" either, but I got thinking about it later... It's got to be done, and it couldn't have really been done better. Padme was the whole reason he did what he did, and then Palpatine's just like "Sorry dude, she's dead". It's not as if Darth is just going to say "Well, darn." It also helps set up that whole "He's still got some humanity in him" that comes to play in the original trilogy.

I also noticed what could be interpreted as references to both Aliens (one scene with Yoda, but it's probably not what you're thinking unless you've seen the film) and one to Terminator / Terminator 2. Did anyone else notice those or was it just me?

someone refresh my memory about why Grievous was coughing. I don't remember ep. 2 very well. Is he a droid or does he have living parts under there? I was like, htf does a droid get a cough? what does he have, robocurlosis?
• BloodySlothBloodySloth Join Date: 2003-08-27 Member: 20284Members
Well you can see he has organic eyes, and during his fight with Kenobi you see his heart and lungs inside the robot chest. It says how he got that way in some Clone Wars episode, but I never saw it.

It's from the Visionaries Comic book.

Anyhow, the reason why Grievous speaks with a cough is because of Mace's little trick with the "Force-crush" action. In the final episode of Clone Wars, he completely smashes the upper torso of Grievous. This causes the armor to completely shred right off, revealing his ribs and delicate insides, and also compresses his diaphram. This now causes him to talk funny.

Also, why am I saying it was Mace? Firstly, Grievous was able to speak fine up until the force-smash by Windu. Secondly, when Grievous was first incapacitated, he got totally wrecked. All except for the vital organs. You see, he ended up with major blood loss (Duh...) and missing most of his limbs (Legs and a little off the arms). Sonce his organs were intact for the most part, they managed to fix him up real good and repaired almost everything via cyber-implants. That bit of info also came from the Visionaries comic.

I beat tycho to it, neener, neener, neener!
