Ns Gameplay Problem

I am not sure how to sum this problem up in a few words and ergo could not do a search to see if anyone had already mentioned this topic, please delete this thread and refer me to them if that is the case.
Anyway, the problem I am talking about is a very strange one, basically myself and quite a number of freinds (who can aim extremely well) from time to time have spectated players who are able to kill a skulk with level 0 weapons extremely quickly whereas we find that difficult. I might not be the best NS player out there but most of my friends who observed that player are very good at NS and they cannot seem to figure out how select few players are able to kill a skulk THAT quick.
We have tryed and tryed and cannot seem to kill a non upgraded skulk with our level 0 weapons as fast as those rare players can. We have checked the players' rates and they are always 20,000 or above, their updaterate is always 60 or above. They can kill a skulk faster than me and my friends can kill an idle skulk! It just doesn't make anysense. Is there an explanation for this? hitbox? rates? special speedhacks? because the bullets seem to come out at the normal rate.

Help?

I'm not quite sure how to respond to this.

Well, you should start out knowing that the LMG spews out 15 slugs a second and it only takes 10 to kill a skulk. .6667 seconds isn't that much and I dunno...I'm calling user error on this one unless you can back it up with maybe a FRAPs made video.

Hmm... Do you have time estimates here? The way you describe it, you have enough demo material to run a short check on how long the player shoots.

Eh...I really don't know what to say. If you're ever amazed at how a single marine takes out like 4 skulks alone...that's because the best marines count their bullets. Well, not literally; they just know exactly how long it takes to kill a skulk, and then move onto the next one. Basically, lots of practice.

    And sometimes it's just luck; the LMG <u>does</u> have a random spread. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Sounds to me like these better players might just have better aim.

If they can kill a moving skulk faster than you can kill a stationary skulk, then it's a speed hack.

I've noticed it too, once in a while. Either they're firing two bullets at the same time, or their bullets do double DMG <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I use an updaterate of 20 because anything higher makes my reg go down very fast for some reason. I havent found a good set of rates that work well for me in a while. And it is not just rates, it is interp and many other things that go into it. Some of the best players are those that know how to tweak there stuff for the best reg.

I kind of know what he's saying because every now and then I'm just being a cute little skulk and I'm moving accross a hallway (which does not take me .66 seconds since it is a thin hallway) and before I know what hit me I'm a cute though dead skulk (and not from a pistol)

I always think to myself "WTH was that."

The above is just one example.

I discounted most of the cases as me not noticing someone and they fire at EXACTLY the same time so it sounded like one gun; however, I was on NSarmslab a week ago and I was ticking off a marine by parasiting him on core up on the lerk gasing ledge in the big room. He kept trying to pistol me and I'm positive he was the only marine that could have shot me because all others were dead after a hive rush. Suddenly, he whips out his LMG and annilates me without barely even firing a shot. I was unharmed before dying.

I asked him "WTH man" and he said "Wow, I don't know what happened there, what was your life?" I responded 70/10. It didn't happen again and we blamed it on he server lagging.

So I'm going to say either --

Two/three marines firing at the same time
    Very rare server ?lag?

All rates should be locked to set defaults if you ask me...end the whole rate buisness once and for all...I get these situations a lot of the time too...seeing some marines (who are really good players) get the normal amount of kills and then other players who can gun down on average 4-5 skulks at a time even if they are within bite-range...and I ain't talking bout bad skulk players either...

If you're talking about pistol deaths then do some research on scripts/bind for the pistol (press-in, release = 2 shots ~ dbl dmg), then there's the mwheel script.

I dunno how mwheel script affects the LMG but there's some info on NSLearn in the scripting tutorial.

Its really a dumb idea if you think about it. Everyone's computer specs and connection speed are different. By locking the rates to default, people with a really good system and connection speed's hit regs would be crap. Not to mention the amount of choke and loss they'd see.

The thing about killing skulks fast is learning to track the hitbox instead of the model. While in most cases its pretty much the same thing, I've found that shooting at the skulk's **** instad of its body allows more bullets to register. Basically, it all comes from experience. Watch the good players and see where they aim. Try it out and it should work for you.

A player's cl_cmdrate can effect hit reg on that player.

It could be a bit about tweaking rates etc to gain good registry, but mostly (when it comes to owning up public servers) it's about memorising movement patterns. Beginners' bhop almost always look the same, which makes the rythm easy to catch on.

Killing skulks running on the floor in 10 bullets is easy with just a hint of tracking ability.

I suspect that this is a troll.
