I have been using Thunderbird for the past year or so, as I don't use email a whole lot and it has been working fine. Problem is, I want to use 2 email accounts through it now. The first being a standard POP3 account, and the second being an IMAP account.

I set up the second IMAP account fine, and it receives email just fine, but then it warns me, I can only use one account to send out email. I can't choose to send it via the original email, or the new one, all outgoing email will go through one account. And since both accounts are from different domains, and I want to keep them seperate so people reply to the right ones, this sadly doesn't work out.

So, Im looking to find a new client, that can send and receive on seperate accounts, one POP3 and one IMAP, any suggestions?

Uhm, what version of Thunderbird is that? I have 1.0 (20041206) installed at the moment, and get the choice of all half-dozen accounts when I send mail. (Do not believe I changed any settings related to multiple accounts)

I used sylpheed for a while pre-thunderbird, but would consider Evolution a better bet these days. Not sure about the status of Windows ports of either.

I'm using 1.0 on Windows, and I also get to choose between several accounts. You can only use one server for outgoing mail, but you can have the From line use a different email address. I know that if you send stuff out using gmail's smtp server, they ignore the From address that you use and fill in your gmail address, and this may be true of other mail servers too, so make sure you check on that to know how it does things (easiest way is to send a few test emails to yourself).

To set the SMTP server used by an account:
Tools > Account Settings > [Account Name] > Server Settings > Advanced > SMTP

To add SMTP servers to that list:
Tools > Account Settings > Outgoing Server (SMTP) > Advanced > Add

At least assuming the buttons are in the same places.

Why would it matter? Use the SMTP server from one of the accounts to send mail from the other, the email will still be sent from the address from which you sent it from IIRC.

Apparently you didn't read my post. As I pointed out, if you send it through gmail's smtp server, it will show up as coming from your gmail account, regardless of what you told it to use for the from address.

In most cases you would be correct (pretty much any ISP, for example), but not always.
