Something I found in an auction
So I was browsing this Ebay like place and came across this here thing:

- AMD Athlon 3000+
- 512 DDR PC3200
- 160gb 7200 HD
- MSI DR8-A 8x IDE DVD+-RW
- Asus k8S-MX inc. 750GX chipset, 1agp (8x) +2pci
- Intefrated 5.1 capable soundcard
- Integrated 128 meg P.o.s, note: the agp slot is open so I'll be putting an x800 or something like that in
- X-Case Phantom ATX case
- Winner 450W ATX power

The only thing I remotely know something about is the vid card, so dont mind the translations on the rest of the parts. Just a general review on the setup.

What should I be upgrading next (aside from the vid ofcourse)? More ram right?

+512 MB more RAM and it would be my dream pc (including the x800 ofcourse) and a AMD proccessor & mobo instead of pentium

This is pretty much the profile of what I orgininally bought for the computer I have now, except for the video card. Since then I've put in another 512 stick and a new hard drive. I bought this thing like 1 and 1/2 years ago so it's pretty much antiquated by now but I play HL2 and Doom3 with playable frames (this is mostly due to my geforce fx 5600u, but the rest of the box matters too). The beefy computer of your dreams it's not. But it's a good system at the moment that will do "well enough".

As far as upgrading, you should probably go like this(assuming the video card is done with).
1.) More RAM: always the cheapest, easiest, and biggest performance boost.
2.) Upgrade the CPU: find out how high of a chip that mobo will support.
3.) Upgrade the cooling: consider water cooling and learn how to overclock.

    Thanks for the replies.

Forgot to mention the price is 500€ btw. Reasonable?

Judging by the info I've given, how long will this PC last me. I mean how long can I keep upgrading it until it's no longer worth it?

160gb is enough for me. I've had this 40g one for ages, + I store all my files on my 60g Zen anyway.

What's wrong with the processor? I thought it was fairly new?

i doubt water cooling is really nescessary... even when overclocking.. just get some good fans or heat sinks... then again im not much of a computer hardware expert..

Don't bother with overclocking, it's not worth it.

I'd love to get water cooling, though, for the reduction in noise alone.

Trust me, as long as you don't buy the cheapest parts as you can, noise won't be a problem.
