Man i hope i get to be a ghost when i die, one that can interact with people and stuff. Wow, would i screw up some minds back here? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

and i dont believe in ghosts, stuff like this can be explained if you do the research on the surrounding area.
i saw this one show where this entire family was seeing and hearing stuff from beings so evil, that they wouldnt speak of it years after it happened.
it turns out that they had an EXTREMELY rare sensetivity to electromagnetic fields, and rare as in 1 out of 1,000,000 people. the electromagnetic fields were conflicting with parts of their brain, causing the horrible dillusions. it turned out that the whole area, their house, and about 3 square miles around the earths magnetic field was different from everywhere else.

Broadband for ghosts. I guess the belief in ghosts, or even the afterlife in general, depends on your perception of consciousness. If you believe it is merely a emergent effect of intellegence, then you wouldn't believe in an afterlife, as consciousness would disappear when the intellegence disappears. On the other hand, if you believe it is a completely seperate force that happens to interact with the brain (such as a soul), the idea it would continue to exist after death is not a significant leap of faith.
If ghosts do exist, magnetic forces would seem a convenient way for them to interact with the real world. Many of the experiences described probably don't require huge amounts of energy to produce them. It would definitely be cool if you could build a machine that could move any object without having to physically touch it.
Of course, it's far far easier to prove something does exist than prove something does not exist. The fact you can reproduce something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I can easily reproduce a picture of a yellow ball using CG rendering. That doesn't mean yellow balls don't exist, but that I can't use a picture of a yellow ball as proof they do exist.

As for the painting. I remember part of the story was someone liked the art, so they set it as their background on their computer. The computer would occasionally restart/shut-down itself until he changed his desktop picture.
