For the second time evar!
So, I've been toying around with the new personalized google page, and found a whee bit of a problem:
Yes, that happened to me too: I had loaded up several different RSS feeds in Thunderbird and received the same message. I can understand why they ban the frequent pinging, but the bandwidth limit is far too low. RSS feeds aren't as bandwidth intensive as actual visits to the site.
Multiply the bandwidth usage by the bajillion or something other users of slashdot (or however much is needed to do a slashdotting). They need to save bandwidth. Which to be honest, slashdot could do with a retooling of their layout to more a standards based one but meh.
Also, I don't see this as a Google mess up. It's an unintended consequence of using a third party feed. I bet they've done something with their settings by now to make sure this doesn't happen again.
I understand that Slashdot gets a lot of hits. Regardless, getting one hit from an RSS feed is less of a bandwidth drain than for the same person to visit the site and load everything up. Banning users from viewing headlines that link to the page, and instead forcing them to frequently visit the entire site would, at least to me, increase the bandwidth used.

Hey, with this new Google Slashdot News Feed thing, does this mean that every slashdot repost that Doomeh posts here will be one that I've seen on my homepage now? Be still my beating heart...
