Menu Problems...i Think

Hey Guys,
First of all, great game. I'm a very team oriented player and this, if I ever get it working right, will be right up my alley.
When I bring up my menu, as either an alien or a marine, I have a very, very hard time selecting any action. I bring up menu, highlite what I want to do (making sure I have enough resources of course) let go of menu button and nodda. Do it and hit fire and same. I played the vastly outnumbered aliens my first few times, disregarding the warning at the start, going with my gut instincts to have even teams, and thought the problem may be me. I played the marines next round, irregardless of the hopeless cause of the already defeated 7 vs. 3 aliens. I tried asking for orders. I end up bringing up menu, going to "ask for orders" and hit jump, fire, use, and crouch buttons over and over. Sometimes it works. My bud says he just brings up menu, highlites what he wants to do, and releases menu button. The simplicity drives me crazy. This will not work on my machine. I downloaded it twice and reinstalled 8 or 9 times now.
Now yesterday the menu itself was acting a little wierd and not giving me all the options available at times, and next time I hit it, it will. I don't know what it's doing today cause I've had it till I find a fix.
Any help would be appreciated.

p.s. In case it helps. I'm running an amd 1600+, creative labs 32 mb geforce2 mx400, xp pro, and running at 1024 x 768 res. with opengl.
