Im not sure how exactly, but since the motherboard has to be "crossfire enabled" im guessing it has something simmilar to the SLi link built into the motherboard.

having 2 different cards sounds like it's asking for trouble to me. You get the lowest common denominator when the game is sampling feature support. And if the results look slightly different, won't you get visible blockiness in your picture?
I think that it may *support* having 2 different cards, but in practice you'll have to get the same chipset to avoid problems.
when games get better though it may become more useful. Use the newer card for final shader passes and the high res textures, then use the older one for geometry and detail textures or some such. You could actually break up the workload pretty well if it was done right.
The nice thing is though, since it only works on x800 cards and up.....the "lowest common denominator" will be good anyways <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

So it's SLi, but using ATi cards instead of NVIDIA ones...
Too bad it would then build brand loyalty to that company....
