Uhm, How do you run this? Like, is there a .exe file, or a shortcut or something?

Any help would be much appreciated.

asrifle.gif me if you want, but I've looked about and can't find anything.

I have installed NS, and I have run HL with Steam just as the manual said to do, but Steam doesn't show anything about third party software in the Play Games menu.

    When you run the installer, look at the path it's installing to and make sure the e-mail address in there is the correct one for the Steam account you're using.

    The only other thing I can think of right now is to make sure you scroll down the Play Games menu.

    I'm having the exact same problem. I have installed NS about 10 times now with no luck. It does not want to show up in my Play Games list. I have installed only one other 3rd party mod, POA, and that works just fine. I've had HL2 since the day it came out. Everything is up-to-date and working with NS v3.0. Followed the Tut plenty of times.

    This is where I installed NS to (Also, the default lcoation it choose):
    C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steamapps\juggknot\half-life

    According to other forum posts, this is the correct directory. But its not working for me and noticed a few others are having the same issue.

    I can, however, goto the servers list in Steam and filter/show only NS. When I try to connect to any NS server, I am brought to the "Browse Games" window. o-O Happens every time I try to connect to ANY server. Other than that, I have had no luck being able to play. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Since it dosen't show up and it does not create a .exe file, it is moderately complicated, but because it can make shortcuts through steam....make a new shortcut file, and make the location this:
    <!--c1--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1-->F:\Steam\steam.exe -applaunch 70 -game "ns"<!--c2--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->

    Where F:\Steam\ is the location of your steam directory (not the account folder where you installed the game).

    That should run the HL engine with the NS mod's content, giving you the NS game, if this dosen't work, your installation was borked.

    Made the shortcut pointing to my Steam.exe with the NS parameters. It just brings up the "Browse Games" window once again. What EXACT directory does Steam look for mods? Steam is just not finding the game yet it is installed properly according to the Tut.

    The NS mod should be in....

    \Steam\SteamApps\YourEmail@place.thing\HalfLife\ns\

    And i believe the folder should be something like 300 MB (not sure, mine is a far-from-fresh install.)

    That being said, steam dosen't like it, there is no way (I know of) to run NS without steam, and since the shortcut dosen't work steam refuses to acknoledge the game's existance.

    You all really need to add the direction "RESTART YOUR COMPUTER" to the manual. I usually only restart when I'm prompted to do so, so I didn't even think of doing that, but it worked. I had to restart when I installed another aplication and found Natural Selection in my Play Games window.

    You need HALF-LIFE ONE!!! NS will NOT run on Half-Life 2.

    Well, that explains everything. I do have HL 1, just not installed. I thought this was a HL2 mod. Bummer <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    no, you have to have HL1 installed for NS to run.

    NS is missing several key fails (like the engine), and thus will not run by itself.

    If you have any other Half-Life MODs installed to your Steam account, most notably Counter-Strike, then there is a chance that NS will work, however, it will need to be installed to \Counter-Strike, instead of \HL.

    As far as I am aware, Unknown Worlds do not have a license to distribute the Half-Life Classic game engine, so you must have Half-Life downloaded to your Steam account. The Steam accounts do "know" that you have Half-Life bound to your account, but the core engine is missing, so no Half-Life MODs will work.

    well i had them all on my account, cos they were alll on my old PC, but then my CPU melted :tut: (knockedd the fan which blocked it <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->) so i got a new one and i installed steam and HL2 and didnt install HL1 cos my bro forgot to give me my CD bk cos he borrowed it but it still worked, it probably worked cos it new that i had once installed HL1?

    If you only replaced the CPU when it went critical, then you still had all the information on your hard drive from before the meltdown. Installing Steam would have reset your Play Games list, but the Half-Life game information would have still been there. The files that were downloaded would have been a point update for Half-Life.

    Unless you miss it, when you open NS up, it says "Preparing to play Half-Life".

    You didn't install NS and play it without the HL engine, HL was already on your computer, just not associated with your reset Play Games list. If you check your list, then you'll find that HL will be in white. Check C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\<username here>\hl, you'll find that all the Half-Life files will be there...
