dice is based primarily in Sweden...

this is the closing of a new york office and those members were offered employment in the Sweden office if they wanted it.

if I'm correct, bf2 was not made in New York. If I remember correctly, the people employed at new york were primarily consultants that assisted with the modern warfare aspect.

edit: in other words, they probably knew about this well in advance.

A little background for those too lazy to read the article: These are the people who created the Desert Combat mod, were hired by DICE, and built a lot of the BF2 groundwork.
This is, sad to say, standard EA company policy - reduce the employee's ability of profiling himself, and you reduce the chance of losing him to the competition. All I can by now say about that company is that I wish their current stock situation remains a little longer...

Most likely they're under NDA's. That's usually standard procedure. Make em sign a contract promising not to talk under threat of a legal enema...

... Not that it's undeserved, or anything. EA can go straight to Hell for all I care.

I'm no EA fan, but one fact you guys are overlooking. EA doesn't own DICE yet. And Trauma got ****.

The direct quote: "The deal contained value in form of rights to trademarks as well as a new game concept"

So they were brought on with the interest of buying their franchise rights, basically with no intent of keeping them long-term. In addition, whatever new concept they were working on now is now DICE property. Everything they have to their name is now owned by another company, they lost 200,000 in payments from the original agreement on the final amount, and as a final slap to the face an offer to move to Sweden. Yeah, you can keep your job, but only by risking everything on a probably not at all secure job venture somewhere in Europe. I bet most of them couldn't even afford that sort of move.

Yeah. Let's see how many people root for DICE now when EA continues its buyout effort.

We're turning into regular slashdot knee-jerk idiots here. A quote from a link from TFA that gives more information.

Gamecloud spoke on the phone today with Frank DeLise, the head of Trauma Studios and the main creator of the Battlefield: 1942 mod Desert Combat about today’s decision by Digital Illusions (DICE) to shut down the offices. DeLise said the 12 employees of Trauma were just informed about the decision to close the studios today, although he told us he knew about the decision sometime before then. The reason for the closing was because of Electronic Arts’ majority purchase of DICE’s stock earlier this year. When EA bought into the company, it was decided that having a New York office along with the Swedish and Canadian studios was not going to be viable. DeLise did tell us that the final decision to close Trauma was made by DICE, not EA.
