    So what was the Virus?

... I dont know? It was a toolbar, well, listed in the folder "toolbar." All it did was install random things on my computer without asking me and burden me with popups. As well as bog my computer down from duplicating the same program over and over again.

The one Haze is referring to is known as the IBS Toolbar.

It constantly downloads random spyware/adware on the computer. It also allows for malicious code to be accessed on the computer(trojans/worms/virii).

Recently, as some of you know I had UBER huge amounts of virii on a computer I was working with. That was the little bugger that did it.

MS Anit-spyware and AVG pwnt him quite easily, and did so in about three hours, but then it took me almost a week of cleaning up the virii/worm mess. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

The reason I point this out, is there may be lingering damage. the best first step to overcoming a problem, is making sure you know what the problem is. Go back and check your AVG "Virus Vault" to see just what the infection was, then check with SARC to make sure your problem is completely fixed.

Did you get my PM? Anyway spy-ware is worse than anyone can belive, i was hit with it bad one day, and i couldnt even load into my computer, i had to reformat. And when i did, i decided that the loss of RAM/Processer was for the better (IE for the background scanners) You can always upgrade your computer to handel the extra weight, but to have to lose all your data and start a new, thats harder.

Yes viper, I got your PM. I never got the popup message though.. my message box is full too, so one second. Anyways, here are the viruses.

TBPS was also a file in the toolbar folder which I deleted in safemode.

I take it the immeadiate crisis is over, but if anything like this ever happens again, here's a suggestion.

Download TightVNC and install. When you get in over your head, find a tech savvy friend, get his IP, block ALL external access except from that IP, then let him connect to your computer using VNC. It will let him control your computer, so he can clean it for you.

Instead of allowing someone control over his computer, he could just use MS spyware removal, and AVG.

Or, he could alwys go out and buy a new anti-virus, (PC-cillin) (AVG Professional). Both of those are excellent, and MS finds things that spybot and ad-aware can not. (It doesn't detect cookies which is why ad-aware looks like its better, but not all cookies are "bad", and you can delete them from within the Firefox/IE preferences.)

There ya go. And please, tell us what viral infections you come up with, as its possible that AVG wont be able to fully clean things up. Thats what specific viral repair kits are for. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Go there Svenpa.

Oh I thought Cyndane meant the Aurora adaware link, my mistake.
  • CyndaneCyndane Join Date: 2003-11-15 Member: 22913Members
Oh.. hehe I should have clarified.. The aurora one is just to show you what it is you are trying to remove. Information, nothing more.

Click on the MS one and pwnzor that evil thingy. :-)

It worked! It found it and told me it was removed. Now to see if the little bugger returns.

    Thanks a bunch people <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

While I may not agree that MS is the spawn of satan, do they know how to make an anti-spyware/malware proggy. (Much better then ad-aware/spybot) but then those are free for the most part as well.

I want to see what MS has for an anti-virus scanner eventually, that will would be awesome if it can compete with PC Cillin and AVG.

Where do I find AVG Professional and how much does it cost?
I've been looking EVERYWHERE for it....

Anyway, use Mozilla if your PC is new-ish. it's a bit heavier on resources than FireFox, but in the long run it's better. Be sure you download and install the noScript plugin for it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Blocks ANY JavaScript from pages you don't specify

Technically Cyn, Microsoft know not how to make an AS app, they know how to buy GIANT Software, who made the AS.

Bullet, you can buy AVG Professional direct from the developers Grisoft from their <a href='http://www.grisoft.com/doc/5/lng/us/tpl/tpl01' target='_blank'>AVG Products page.</a>

Anyone looking for the CWS killer should go to the <a href='http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html' target='_blank'>InterMute CWShredder page</a>.

For all those wondering why CWS has it's own removal tool, and 99% of the rest are included with AS programs? Go to the <a href='http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Popup-Ad-Spyware-Blockers/CWShredder.shtml' target='_blank'>Softpedia.com's page for CWS</a>. Put bluntly, CWS wants to be on your PC...

Alright.. MS knows how to buy a really good ani-spyware company and make it better. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    *Edit*

Also, how to give that said company their name and unlimited budget to pwnzor all other anti-spyware software to TAKE OVER THE WORLD.
