Damn you BF2
Now that I see the pure hot secks of Battlefield 2 coming out I realize hey my 'puter needs a boost. But being the cheap-**** that I am I don't want to spend a lot of cash. I'm basically looking to upgrade my ram and video card.
I've been thinking about this 6600gt
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814145107
And another stick of 512 pc2700 (since that's what i've got now and dont want to blow more money on higher frequency ram if it'll just kick it down for the older sticks)
I need an AGP video card cause I'm not ready to upgrade my mobo/cpu and ddr ram. I don't want to spend more than $200.
Suggestions? Comments? Recommendations?

But if you like Nvidia, that 6600GT would be good also.
Short summary of the 6600GT vs. 9800XT:
One is faster (just a decent guess the 6600GT).
6600 GT has more shader goodness.
6600 GT uses less power and generates less heat.
6600 GT is 20 bucks cheaper.
So my conclusion: Good choice.
As for the ram, its cheap stuff, but if ur not gonna buy for a bit and have 2 open slots, i think im gonna be getting rid of 2x 256 sticks in a little more than a month and a half.
Too bad BF2 comes out tomorro, otherwise it may b worthwhile
[EDIT]
Yes, significantly.

Vs. a 9800 pro

Thanks for the offer but that's pretty much what I'm getting rid of myself. I've got 3 slots, 1 regular and 2 dual channel. I'm trying to decide between buying a single stick of 512 Pc2700 which is around $36 or getting 512 X2 Pc 3000 which is around $80. The performance boost could be noticeable but is it worth the extra cost?
I think ur asking if one stick of 512 PC2700 is worth even considering if you are also considering 2x 512 sticks for Dual channel.
Ill put it this way. 512 is enough for medium settings on most games around. 1 GB will not double your performance, but will significantly decrease load times and give u an edge in multitasking. Dual channel makes this difference more noticable. (it makes it run even faster).
With a 6600GT, i think it would be a bad idea to go with less than 1GB total, just cause your system memory would be bottlenecking your graphics performance noticably. And when you can get 1GB of PC3200 for essentially $66, it will be worth the 30 bucks in raw performance.

Hope it helps.
