I actually enjoy Joint Ops a lot more than BF1, and this looks like it's going to be even better than that. The only problem with JO is it requires a supercomputer to get 40FPS if you want it to look like something other than an amorphous green blob on the monitor.

The netcode was/is great in my opinion! No bugs, nothing. (BATTLEFIELD 2)
And yes, it has a carrier with helicopters (blackhawk and apache) and vertical takeoff fighter-planes. Actually i didnt encounter that many civil vehicles that wasnt destroyed, while driving through the city in tank. (must have been from the battle)
ohhh... VTOL planes eh? Awesome. :D Those will make great targets ;D
I'm glad carriers are back in BF2. They were sorely missing from BFV...
As far as the netcode.. well.. you DID play it on a LAN, so its not like you can really gauge...
In regards to the vehicles scattered throughout the map, I know they all already look destroyed, what I meant was can you push them out of the way w/ your tank, or does it bring you to a halt as it does in BFV?
when the carrier moves, does it have the slippage problems we saw in bf1942?
That is, when you're taking off with a plane and the carrier is steaming along, does the plane slip across the carrier surface as the engine tries to determine if the plane should move with the carrier or not?

Something about smacktards driving the carrier off the edge of the map.

Oh and another thing, the Anti-air system on the carrier is so sexy! I didnt see any smaller ships, maybe coursed by the fact that we only played 5 vs 5 (generally). There are small landingboats though.
Interesting <a href='http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=258' target='_blank'>BF2 interview</a> on Gamecloud. Contains a few bits of info I hadn't previously heard too. Snipplet:
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Gamecloud - How does the new ammo penetration in the game affect how players operate on the battlefield?
Ben Smith - Basically, certain materials are penetrable to gun fire, meaning you can shoot players through a wind shield with most weapons or even penetrate the bullet-proof glass of an attack helicopter cockpit with a high caliber round. There are also tin-sided fences that players can be shot through (assuming you know that they are lurking behind).<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Sweet. All those times in BFV when I was sniping and saw an enemy huey and had the pilot in my sights, only to be twarted by impenetrable glass... Sniping the pilot of a chopper full of passengers is going to be fun >:D
Also, Fargo <a href='http://www.gamespy.com/articles/624/624196p1.html' target='_blank'>breaks the news</a> that appearently the US military has been working in cooperation with EA to use Battlefield 2 to train soldiers!
One of my problems with the players of 1942 was that they would take some aircraft only to get to some location quickly and jump out. This was even more annoying when they did it with my in another seat and no warning.. though I would ctach it sometimes and be able to use the craft. if you're going to take a vehicle use it.
Another thing was that players had no idea what things were used for... I would be off in an artillery vehicle and taking requests when someone would get in and drive it right into combat... the thing has almost no armor and should not be used against tanks as it it were a tank itself.

1. You don't die in one shot! This was no problem on some of the smaller maps, but being a rifleman in a large map could, and often was, horrible. 2. Helicopters look like they are actually going to be useful in battle! Every damned time you try and do a strafing run in JO (Only really possible with the little birds, unless, by some amazing feat of probability, you had decent gunners on your two chainguns for the larger helicopter) without getting shot down within 3 seconds. JO would be approximately 1000000 times better without those damned hand held sams. I'm glad to see that they are not in BF2.
Unfortunately, i have heard bad things about the new sniper system in BF2. Apparantly, they have taken out the drift completely. Abra, could you confirm/deny?
I have one question, and that is "How's the netcode?" The one thing that really annoyed me with the first release was the netcode, forcing you to lead sniper rifles while sometimes another person could kill you from the other side of the map because he wasn't affected by the same pings you were.
My confidence is failing since they had you play on a LAN, which as a matter of course, has ZERO lag. Did they have somthing to hide?

They played it on a LAN because <i>the event was hosted by a LAN cafe</i>. Remember - the original BF1942 engine is built from the Hitman engine of all things, and even so netcode issues were mostly resolved a few months after release. Most of the "lag" problems were client side performance issues, as the engine was stupid and would load everything on the map instead of only what was visible to the player, giving you the perception of high lag in larger games. The new game has a totally new engine, so my hope is that we won't see the same horrid pings and crappy memory management that plagued the original title.
both their studios the one in on the west coast and the one on east coast in their testing room they have dsl/cable connections and play against each other to test the netcode, so i'm sure its fine

Don't suppose there are larger objects besides street signs you can crush, are there? Like perhaps pushing cars outta the way w/ a tank and stuff...
