I'm in the mood for a jet sim...
I hear BF2 has quite sexy air combat stuff, worth buying a joystick over, so i'm currently pondering getting one of those fancy ones like this one. But it'd be a bit silly to buy one just for BF2, so I was wondering, are there any good flight games that could go w/ said joystick purchase?

No, not MS Flight Simulator, I want something where you actually shoot things and fly a combat jet. :P

A Macross game sure would be the ultra win... oh well. heh.

So uhh yeah, if you know of any good games to use w/ these joysticks, lemme know.

    1) This isn't a BF topic.
    2) The last BF topic I made was 2 days ago, but see item 1.

Oh my god... it's full of useless!

I dunno doomeh, I'm looking for a jet sim too. Freespace 2 is the cream when it comes to space sims however.

I could never justify $80 for a joystick. I could barely justify $40 for a mouse.

When I play Desert Combat I always just use the mouse and keyboard simple enough and I don't have to switch between controllers.

    ...

most of this thread has been utterly useless to doomeh.... almost all of it in fact... including this post.

I dunno about you Doomeh, but I'm buying

    So there.

With which I shall play BF2, a variety of BF1942 mods including DC and GC, SW XWing Alliance, and probably use it as much as I can for XWing vs TIE Fighter.

The Mechwarrior series. Teh win with joystix!

Thats true, with the crazy amount of controls, any mechwarrior game would benifit from the movement and torso twist at least with even a halfway decent joystick. Adding throttle and most weapon configurations saves u wear on your keyboard.

/me remembers the days of mechwarrior 2 and my old OLD joystick.

Back when I played games on a mac....

The best simulations of combat in a fight jet in the world were made well over 5 years ago.

Case in point? Falcon 4.0. It'll be hard to find a copy, but if you do, look for a community on it, and that'll point you in the general direction of the mods that update it's graphics and add a TON of stuff. Unlike our mod community, theirs is almost 100% proffessional folks. And Falcon 4.0 by itself is amazing anyway.

That was the first PC game I ever bought. Man....deep, man.

for a good joystick suggestion, the x52, although costing as much as a motherboard, is built like a tank. Good flightsim games, as I also have discovered, are rather hard to find. from what i've heard, Crimson Skies was a good one (with a surprisingly cool alternate "Piston Punk" 1930's)

and, for a surprising good flightsim, well, choppersim, try GTA: Vice City. Load in a good action-y soundtrack into the mp3 player, steal a Hunter (mmm... apache goodness) switch to first person, fire up the vigilante "Brown Thunder" mission and commence with the destruction!
