Commander Mode - Several Crashes

ForgeForge Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4862Members
<div class="IPBDescription">Reproducable</div>There are several Problems my Natural Selection suffers from.
They are all Commander concerned, the rest just works fine.

The problems manifest themself in the following ways.

Whenever i click logout in the Command Unit NS takes it for real and boots me to the Desktop. HL closed without another Message.
Quite fast logout, but as it occurs as well when a game is won or the Unit is destroyed its getting annoying.
This Bug is reproducable, it occurs on every Map i've played today. Config is Default, with just a Name changed, some binds and Autohelp turned off.

The other problem occurs when i click in the upper left corner of the Command Screen.
I try to avoid this as there is nothing to click at, but sometimes it happens on accident.
The game just decides to start a vendetta and boots me to the Desktop. This time the Game is still running in the Background, but the CPU Usage drops to zero and Memory to about 3 MB.
Needless to say with no chance to get it back into fullscreen.

These crashes only occur in Commander mode. The "normal" game runs without complains.

Now for the technical facts.

AMD XP 1,8+
512 MB DDR Ram (clocked at 266)
A7V333 (Via installed and up to date)
Kyro (A bottleneck, but trustworthy. it served and still serves me well)
Soundblaster 64 (PCI) OR C-Media Support (On Board) - Both ready to go. Never ask, i need both of them.

Windows 2000 Professional SP 3 running Sharpe Shell Replacement
DX: Up to date.

Game is running in OpenGL as D3D is unacceptable.
Resolution is 1024x768x16

The only starting parameter is -console
As I am hosting games sometimes, the serverside Patch is installed, it happened before anyway.

If I missed something tell me. If I overlooked a FAQ entry, link me.
(I actually searched in similiar threads concerning command unit, but didn't find the problem of mine)
Thank you for your Time.

    So far, all known crash to desktops fix success stories have involved one of the the following:

    1. Turning on A3D Audio if it was off.
    2. Updating video and audio drivers.
    3. Uninstalling and Reinstalling NS.

    1. The PCI 64 supports neither A3D nor EAX. Forgot to mention, i tried the 5.1 as well. As this thing supports this Audio Mods they were activated (a3d/eax 0/0, 1/0, 0/1, 1/1) Same Problems.
    2. They are up to date. Tried older ones as well.
    3. Again? (I'm doing support for camper-strike, how should I forget this basic hint? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->)

    Thx anyway.
    But it is not that easy <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I host a 4 vs 4 server on my cable modem, and I have noticed this a lot with players logging out of the commander station..

    I'll be watching them and they will say they're logging out for another player to learn what to do, and instead of logging out they just drop from the server, apparently though its closing HL gracefully, the player just quits as if they'd typed "quit" in their console.
