Overheating Problems?
<div class="IPBDescription">I'm not sure, but I lock up.</div> This has been going on for some time now, probably a month or so, but my computer continues to lock up. Not on it's own, but something that "works" the processor so that the fan has to turn on to cool it down.
There's the problem. My fan doesn't even turn on without me manually[Yes, reaching into the case and spinning the blades with my finger jump-starts it.], and I'm missing two blades on it. Due to the balance being boned, it vibrates and the sound is horribly annoying.
Without the fan cooling it down, it eventually overheats and locks up. I can't run games or ROMs for too long because I'll eventually lock up, this sometimes even happens when I play a movie.
Now I'm damn sure this is a overheating problem, but I'm quite a moron, and I'd rather ask you guys about this instead of going on my word, unless it's mutual. If this is the problem, how much would a fan cost, and is installing it easy enough?

New fan seems to be the new hot fix!
Anyway, but a new heatsink and fan. Just figure out what socket # your processor is then buy an appropriate fan. It shouldn't cost more then 20$, 40$ at most if you want to buy a really nice one.
And it'll work on pretty much any CPU you would have <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Compatibility[Socket 478 / A / 754 / 939 / 940 / LGA775]
I'm getting one for meh new stuff once I get meh new stuff...
If you go for a new heatsink and fan make sure to clean the CPU up of any thermal paste left on and if possible use a thermal patch when installing instead of paste.
Ill let Patch post on what can go wrong with thermal paste, since he puts it in more technical terms then me <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> basically to much and it overheats, too little and it overheats. With a patch you have not got those problems.
As for the fan its normally just a matter of unscrewing the 4 screws that go through the fan to the heatsink and diconnecting it from the 3v supply or is it 1.5v on the motherboard. Mount the new fan making sure to get it the right way up...and screw it into place and re-connect. If you have a new paint brush make sure to clean the heatsink before mounting, better yet use a can of compressed air from your local PC shop to blow the dirt out never blow using your own breath as it is full of moisture.
If you have the money get yourself a anti static mat and wrist strap, or if you are skint touch the copper on a radiator or a tap before touching anything inside the PC this is to earth yourself, theirs nothing worse then frying a brand new £300 GFX card. Some people will simply say touch the PSU casing while its switched on, dont try it... and never take a PSU to bits they carry thousands of volts even after they have been switched off at the wall.
Sorry if this is all common knowledge to you, or ive scared you half to death... its just my way of explaining.
Im sure someone else will take the pleasure of pulling what i have written to bits <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

We're cooling a processor LESS that 900GHZ (yea, ghz), we dont need a car radiator for a V12 <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
