rogue hitboxes in source
I don't recall seeing this on the board and the search didn't turn up anything so I thought I'd show you guys this...
A friend of mine emailed me with this clip of CS:Source hitboxes in action and to say the least it's kinda scary.

oh and on a fun note it was made by 'supernorn'. Wouldn't be our local one would it? :3

*awe*
it displayed embedded in the page using windows media player 10 when I put it on if that helps any o.O
That's pretty incredible... Why are the hitboxes lagging like that? Is it supposed to be Valve's version of lag compensation or something?
Edit: rofl... AVI is "Windows Video" now?
Course, that makes me wonder if it happens to players too but it's very possible :o
Either way, that's still some pretty shoddy stuff right there. And this whole time I thought I was really that bad with the Scout. Now I can blame it all on hitboxes!
Forget it. I should be working right now anyways...
AND THEY BEST FIX IT!
Very unprofessional.

.avi was originally Microsoft proprietary.
About the vid...
I can see some logic in it, as a bass ackwards way of trying to do leading, but that's crazy! Especially close up!
Afaik hitboxes aren't normally anywhere near that bad, that's a bit of an extreme case (although it depends on your settins, Im sure there are some players out there that suffer).
If it makes you feel better I think it's more of a CS problem than a source problem. Never had anything like that in hl2dm and I've played on some really sucky servers in my time.

Whoa, you learn something new every morning at 5 am...
- Valve designed the bot hitboxes to be out of sync on purpose when cl_lagcompensation is set to 1. This is to ensure a consistent level of hit registry between bots and real players on internet servers. The effect in the videos is just Valve's attempt to simulate lag.
- Bots and Lan games should always use cl_lagcompensation to 0 for perfectly synced hitboxes.
Try it. Do what the video says, with the addition of cl_lagcompensation 0.
also, if that's the lag I'm supposed to actually expect from CS it's still rather shocking to me.

Trying playing any game on the internet with lag compensation disabled. Makes a huge difference.
Read all about it HERE

There have been some source game discrepencies though, most notably the crouching hitbox bug in hl2dm that has only just been fixed.
Do you have an ATI card with Catalyst drivers? There used to be an option something to the effect of "AVI acceleration" (or was it some other format?), and it caused these sort of problems.
Just because its dead dosen't mean you can't beat it some more, then toss it in a blender
ah well... at least jediyoshi didn't use some stupid smart-alec comment while he was informing of what I missed. Oh... wait... :p
