Meh just get some good Sennheiser headphone, the 5.1 versions are overated. They have more volume and stuff I dunno about <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

All I know is that I just tested a few (of different brands) in a sound hardware store. Also the 5.1 versions and came to the conclusion that Sennheiser sounds way better then the rest, the sound is more alive or sharper somehow.

Kouji, it would be what they make the diaphrams (speakers) out of that makes it sound so much better. Polyurthene isn't that great at reproducing sounds, so they need to coat it with something else, alumiumn, titanium, or tin are commonlly used.

    And I love it.

    Ignorance for the win?

That's 4.1. They may accept 5.1 input, but the output is 4.1. At least I think it's 4.1, since spreading the bass channel across two speakers does not count as two channels. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Then you need to work on your math. The whole idea of the headphones is that is doesn't just have a left and right speaker. There are 3 speakers mounted in each headphone, each one acts as a diffrent channel, giving you perfect locational sound.
Here, I drew up a picture to better get my idea across.

Each speaker operates on a diffrent channel, allowing one to make noise while all the others remain quiet. Giving you locational sound. And for center forward sounds, both the forward left and forward right speakers play, causing the sound to seem to originate from infront of you. The headphone has 3 plugs that is uses to hook up to the computer, not 1 like most headphones.

    I don't see what you aren't understanding...

    Edit: forgot to attach picture.

That would work, except they are all equal distant from each other, which does not give realistic sound from all directions.

lolfighter has grasped the concept just fine.

You picture is quite accurate, for the heaphones we are talking about, but there is no way that would reproduce actual surround sound. It comes close(close as stereo can get) but it isn't complete.

And you don't get the leg-wobbling bass.
