I actually got this game for free. Someone on an old forum was giving it away and I got it
This makes me wish I wasn't hopelessly bad at space sim games.
Oh well, back to the FPS mob.

Running Freespace1 in 95 compadability stopped the crashing, but now I have another problem. Every few seconds, I get lag, but this lag only affects my input devices. Best space shooter was colony wars on the playstation.
and gpolice rocked big time and it still does, I was really hoping that a 3rd installment of the series would appear on the PS2 but it doesn't look like it
yea but if i use fraps, my framerate goes REALLY low. and i dont know how to take demos and such.
i got more, this time i added fighters to the mix, cant really see them here but it made a difference against the sathanas juggernaut

Ive been playing around the campaign with the "abandonware" trimmed down version (cant access the ftp for high res stuff ) along with the FS open added graphics.... ITS FREAKIN AWESOME..... er.. yea... I'm ashamed I didn't own this before. It's so immersive. I'm on one mission where we have to defend a ship... not a big deal with like 25 ships.... AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THEY ALL EXPLODE AND IM ALONE (except for 2 others that survived, but are near dead).... and I have to kill 15 fighters.... very much adrenaline rush.

eh, that must be one of the couple missions I remember that go something along the lines of...
"Go protect <insert ship or area of space here>, pilot!" (player protects it [joke]for great justice at the bottom of the stairs [/joke]) "Whee! We're okay! We saved the ships/defended this sector/prevented the next apocalypse! They're not coming anymore!"
FFFRROOOOOOM noise of something warping in. (Terrible ghastly silence. Terrible ghastly noise, made by at least 4 red laser beams, each at least the width of your own ship. Terrible ghastly silence.) (Player blinks.) "GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE!!!"

If you find yourself doing poorly on "defend this thing from bombers" style missions, bind that unused button to the letter key "B." This acts mostly like the button that targets the next nearest enemy fighter, but will target only bombers and bombs. Bombs CAN be shot down in mid-flight. If you can't shoot all the bombers enough to persuade them off their bombing run flight path, your last chance is to shoot the bombs, and it's a lot easier when they're targeted [read: when you have the usual lead indicator to tell where to shoot]
Alternatively, if you yourself want to attack large ships, bind it to the letter "K" (I'm pretty sure that's the one by default.) This works like the "target next subsystem" key, but instead of targeting things like weapons, sensors, communications, or engines, it targets actual turrets. Destroying the entire weapons subsystem is one thing...it'll make the turrets less accurate, giving fighters around it a much easier time. But it's still pretty easy to aim a big beam weapon at one of your side's big ships. Taking out the beam turrets solves that.

D-pad acts as hat
Up - Auto match speed
Left and right cycle primary and secondary weapons
Down.. still looking for something D:
X target next hostile
Square Countermeasures
Circle Fire secondary
Triangle Fire primary
L2 Back thrust
L1 Forward Thrust
R1 Afterburner
R2 Target next subsystem
Start Speed 0
Select Equalize shields
Am I missing any vital control? Seeing as I'm still noob to this, and theres... a billion controls....
