Ah, my first game, back in 1.03... now those were the days. BTW I'm pretty sure the stopcommandermode exploit was fixed in 1.03, as the only server I ever got it to work with was Fraggers United ROMLAND before they upgraded, right when I started playing. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
If I remember correctly, the map was ns_caged. Unlike a lot of new players, I actually read the entire old manual and enjoyed the backstory almost as much as the great concept. Anyways, I did as the manual said for me to do and joined the Marine team, following around the largest group of players I could find. I was pretty much cannon fodder, as I had no grasp of tactics other than the manual (and experience is key in NS), but I could still aim, and nailed a bunch of unweary Skulks. In fact, I checked every corner with the fan fiction in the manual in mind. I was a pretty good supporter of the real Marine players, at least in terms of my ratio.
Anyways, I spent most of the first match wondering when the map would end. Compared to other Half-Life mods, it was huge. I was also very interested in getting an HMG and HA, as I had read about them in the manual. Unfortunately, I didn't notice we were losing and that the comm had decided to relocate into the infamous elevator shaft from the old ns_caged. I held out for a bit, shooting any aliens that made it in from beneath that little overhang. Then they got three Hives and some Lerks gassed us.
Even if it was lame and a bad game by vet standards, I was positively awed by the complexity of the mod. And since I was obsessed with StarCraft at the time, I couldn't have started at a better moment. I was hooked instantly, and I remained stuck on NS until 2.0. From then on, I've been stopped for about two months then playing NS for two weeks, getting my skills up to where they used to be, and stopping again.

My first time was on caged in 1.04, i didnt have a clue what was going on, and we lost, but i seemed to like the mod anyway, and i always wanted a game that had both rts and fps elements in it. Obviously, this was it. And have been playing ever since.

That's how I started NS.
But afterwards, I found myself unable to reflect on said experiance.
