<div class="IPBDescription">Video Card Problem?</div> Well, here's my system specs, I'll get some ss's when I get the chance

Basicly, opening the console / hitting escape and then seeing movement / weapons fire or having it open for a long time makes my graphics well... fuk up to say the least. I have no better way to describe it, ScreenShots coming ASAP Though I think it's 64 bit AMD + ATI 9600

Looks like overclocking gone wrong =]
  • KoulnisKoulnis Join Date: 2005-04-13 Member: 48337Members
Looks like your running some custom textures/sprites for your NS. I noticed a different crosshair. Try reinstalling the original textures/sprites and see if this fixes the problem.

Uh... this happens even on a default instalation.

    And no, I don't overclock

    Bah what you complaining about looks bloody funky <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Ok on a more serious note have you got all the updated drivers for you video card as well as your motherboard. Do you run any custom video drivers ?

Also running a 64bit processor are you thinking of moving to Windows XP 64? might fix some of the problems.

Whats you CPU and Case temp? could be a problem with the GFX card overheating, its not unheard of for the fans to fail. I dout it though since you only said it happens when you leave the escape/console menu open.

Sorry i cannot be more help.

Jasp, NEVER recommend anyone to x64 on the assumption that "it might fix some problems"...

Yes, it may fix this disco checkerboard effect, but he'll then be suffering from a loss of icon-specific gamma...

BulletHead, this kind of artifacting problem is either down to a dodgy overclock (which you said you don't do), or a failing RAM problem.

Do you get any kind of graphical artifacting in ANY other game?

    Negatory

My RAM is good, it's supposed to be brand new anyway.
Yes, ONLY in NS or HL2 mods. I think it's pushing the GFX too far?

I have CUSTOM drivers for it... about amonth ago I e-mailed ATI with the problem and they revently e-mailed me back with a DL link for a new set of drivers they said should fix my issue. It did... kind of... I have about 10 seconds of leway in which to use the console. But if anybody shoots or moves onscreen, it happens again.

my case IS missing a fan.. .but even with only 3 of the 4 case fans I never go beyond the mean/median (not sure which term it is) temperatures. I can get the exact temperature tomorrow if you'd like. But the alarm is set to go off when the temperature hits the medium-high spectrum of the safe zone. Yeah... something like that.

    Lt.Patch

He has a 64 bit processor the next logical step open to him is to get XP64 or wait for longhorn which i think will have 64bit support or custom versions.

Why buy a 64bit processor if you do not intend to use its full potental.

Also i didnt recommend he moves to XP64 i asked if he was intending to, as it stands XP64 has very little support from motherboard makers as well GFX card makers, drivers are also harder to find then normal.

I have no intention of moving to a x64 OS any time soon.

Jasp, people are buying 64-bit processors, because they are marketed as future-proof. If someone was looking at a processor, and the box said "BUY ME! I'M WORTH IT!!! (But you'll have to upgrade me when new software comes out)", would you buy it?

The AMD64, and EMT64 CPUs are here to cater for a high-end market. Not only do they do 64-b code natively, but they do many things better than a current 32-b CPU does.

Why do people buy Ferrari's, and other ludicrously fast cars? Not only for the status symbol, but for the extra speed headroom, should they ever need it. Some people will never use a 64-b OS with their 64-b CPU, but the headroom is there. Some people never get to 180mph in their sports cars, but the headroom is there...

So... should I go with nVidia?

I've never seen something like this - it looks like your video card isn't displaying the textures properly... If it was overclocking, you'd see screen tearing and black spots and mis-lighting... This is totally different.
