What the hell? I knew i was having problems with BT (i use Bittornado) i checked the good ole BBR forums, and sure enough, theres a 14 page discusssion on my ISP blocking bt packets. Does anyone know a way around this? So far, nobody has found a surefire way around it. This is total crap!

Well, it's perfectly legal, they are a private company and it is their service... I'd advise taking care of business in good capitalist fashion and switch ISPs if at all possible.

Rogers for me... 5mbps download, 800kbps upload. Don't care what you do with it.

Sucks to have OOL though, switch to another ISP if you need torrents that bad...

Well your ISP has the right to change the terms of service as they see fit, but they can't use the "we're preventing you from haxxoring the internets" excuse, because BT is a very legal program, as are most P2P programs. It's not the program that's illegal nor its use, it's using it to download bad files.

That said, try contacting them and seeing what their reason is for their action.

Yeah, bits aren't bytes, they like to measure speeds in bits so you get all hyped up and buy it

"3 MBPS DOWNSTREAM!? ZOMG" when in reality it's 0.375 megabytes down. That happened to me once D:

    8 bits in a byte.

EDIT: Er... Back on topic... That's pretty iffy right there, are they the only broadband ISP in your area? I'd switch pretty quickly if I were in your position, especially considering I don't normally use BT for illegal things (game demos and preview videos X: )

That sucks man. I remember when my ISP blocked the Steam ports. Couldnt play any game online until I switched.

They could be blocking some other software and are inadvertantly blocking BT.

Yeah go talk to them, then flip them the bird when they tell you they aren't changing it.

Oh don't forget... Us forumites smoke while we flip the bird. t('.')y=~

I was gonna say 'switch isp's then I noticed that it was Cox, which is MY isp. :( :(

And they have a complete monopoly over broadband here in Oklahoma. It's either go w/ Cox for cable speed, or go w/ the sometimes SLOWER than 56K DSL service...

    I want a T1. :(

It isnt cox, its cablevision's OOL...

Changing ports doesent work (they already tested it in that thread) it seems like CV is sending fake packets too the clients that makes it seem like the upload/download is done, and making the torrent terminate itself...

As soon as Verizon FIOS hits my block, im going to make every effort to convince my parents to switch (shouldnt be too hard, they hate my cable company, we pay over $140 in service for them for digital cable, phone, and internet).

What kind of person in a sane condition calls their company Cox?

Suscom cable, really nice company out of Pennsylvania. They just now moved into NY and are buying up all of RCN's old stuff. So far, they have been awesome. I got a free cable upgrade (Cinemax, HBO, etc.) and my internet speed got bumped up to 5mbps up 1.5mbps down, free of charge. However, their tech support is positively overwhelmed with all the new terrtitory they've been taking.

Get ready for cablevision to come and eat them up...

...no seriously, cablevision has some dirty tricks up its sleeve. If they are just blocking the ports you can change the port you are using for bit torrent.

Switch ISPs, or threaten them. I called verizon online for dropping my BT packets, I said "Why are my packets being dropped, its only bit torrent" "We dont know what your talking about" "Okay then I want to cancel my account" "One moment" I ended up talking to a rep saying "This is terrible!" ever since my connection was doubled and unlocked BT
