Go get 'em.
And by "get them" I mean, get trained for your career in the military which may or may not involve actual combat. (Not to be too off topic, but do they send the guys who work with the computers and stuff to boot camp?)
hence the name BASIC training <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I don't think stubbing your toe counts as "getting hurt" in the Marines unless you stubb it on a landmine and get your whole lower body blown off. THEN you're hurt.
If nothing else, you'll get back with some great stories you can tell for the rest of your life.

Im gonna assume that was an on purpose bad joke.... but still good luck with it!
I second this motion.
Good luck!
Well, keep track of it, anyway.
...Oh, you want to read it? Well, here goes:
July 5th
Hey youse. How's it goin'? At my end, well, I wont lie. It's pretty rough, and will only get rougher. Today is the first official Training Day, or T-1. First night, we got herded from the airport USO into busses and ordered to put our heads between our legs. From that point we recieved the majority of our gear and were kept awake about 30some hours...
The next few days we stayed in a "recieving" barracks to learn the basics of procedure and base life... and then "pick up." On that day we picked up allll our ****, which weighed approximately 1 shitton, and walked over to our REAL barracks... it was about 130 of us all split up into different platoons mixed with other recieving groups. We were introduced to our REAL drill instructors, who are, in short, a bunch of bastards. Except maybe for the senior drill instructor, who is nice to me on the off occasion. Of course, they're all just doing their jobs, but when they're screaming their throats raw right in your face and their non-too sweet smelling spit coats the side of your face and one side of your glasses... it's easy to forget. I've been called an idiot, a moron, a retard, stupid, ****, ****head, chink, ****, and much much more... but actually, they (DIs) respect me more (or treat me less like ****) than most other recruits, because I'm fairly squared-away (learn fast, scream at the top of my lungs (sound off), and do what you're told, and you get along okay). But I also get treated less like **** because I'm a "guide". Yep... I was assigned to be, basically, platoon leader of 75 guys. I figured I have SOME innate leadership ability, but hoped not to make guide or squad leader (4 squad leaders work under the guide) for 1 or 2 months. 1st phase(month) is the one with the majority of hardship and pain, and a lot of learning the hard way.
I'm doing a good job in my opinion, and I've overheard the senior drill instructor say he likes the job I'm doing ("We're gonna keep this ****, I like him.") But since it's 1st phase, I'll get fired sooner or later. I can get hired again, but there's no guarantee.
The senior is a pretty well built gunnery sgt (30some years old), latino, by name of Ramirez. He has a sort of nice-guy attitude, but clearly a short fuse. His temper might be genuine or for show, but the results of his getting **** off are very real. =P
The other two drill instructors who work under him do most work with us. Butter (staff sgt.) is a 5'10 or so, BIG BLACK GUY. Very stocky (and built, yeah...) with a face that isn't mean per se... but looks like a neverending, smug smirk of satisfaction. Sanchez (gunnery sgt.) is the mean faced one. Latin, around 5'9, when he opens his mouth it's like the salivary floodgates burst open. He is, by like 30%, the meanest one.
We got our rifles yesterday (July 4th). There was less romanticism and awe involved than I thought there might be... we started rifle drill after we got them, so we just ended up with our arms tired.
Not sure what else to say, it sucks, I'm heartbroken at night, blah blah blah. Things will start looking up, sometime anyway. I hear they lighten up in about 2 weeks. =P
Wish me luck, I hope to hear from you soon. Really. =)
Zig...
Or John. =P
P.S. I wont recieve any mail for a week or so, the reply to you guys and your wellwishes or questions will be delayed... but by all means, post/reply/comment now, so I can get all your comments at once. =)
Please just post here, and he'll get all the ones that meet the censor's criteria. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Quite an experience, you got more guts than me I'll give you that <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
My boss (former marine) wants to know where you are going through basic, and if you still say "good night chestey where ever you are" at the end of your prayers.
yarrr..
goodluck hang in there.
and kick some arse for us!
And never get care packages in the mail. Ever. Cuz they'l make you eat the whole damn thing. All at once. Until you puke your ****ign guts out.
Where is this boot camp taking place. This guy is a recruiter in the Denver area, probly not the same guy.
Sounds like he's having a good time <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
