Does Windows Update Make Weird Folder Names?

<div class="IPBDescription">Such As C:\f2b8db96d0e445c124f4892d97d6a</div> I've recently formated and have been in the process of re-installing the essentials. Steam, DirectX, Catalysts etc etc.

And i've stumbled across a folder called:

f2b8db96d0e445c124f4892d97d6a559 on my C:\ drive.

( C:\f2b8db96d0e445c124f4892d97d6a559 )

Yes - i've Googled it.

It looks harmless enough.
Rather than list whats in the folder i've attached a .txt file.

So.... is it safe to delete this?

    Looks Windows Update-ish to me.
Glad to know they're updating wordpad.exe. So many bugs in that one...

Yes it does, I believe they're the temp files. God knows why it's not using a temp folder inside the Win directory.

The problem is that for some reason, I once had the problem where I couldn't delete the folder.

it's a temp folder, so it's probably named like that intentionall y so you probably won't have another folder with an identical name (why would you?) so when the system deletes the temp folder it won't delete any of your personal stuff

    lol...
ususally i dont try deleting windows system files, whether it be temp or not.
i mean, if it has a remove temp file function then its all fine and dandy, but if not, there could always some use for them that MS reserve for themselves...

    /me skims through it...

This may sound like a wierd question but do you use an ATi grpahics card? I saw some ATi specific files in there that's why I'm asking. My guess is that either Microsoft's Windows, ATi's installer, or SunMicrosystem's Java (something with the JVM) has to do with it.

This folder is most likely a temp folder used in installation for one of those three. Personally I wish there could just be one temp folder for all OS's and all files with a ~ prefix get deleted on boot.

Yes I use an ATI 9800 Pro. But I didn't get the drivers from the Microsoft Update site because they were the Catalyst 5.6's and apparently they cause problems in BF2.

I've decided to compress the folder in question into a .zip / .rar file and then delete the folder. If anything goes wrong i'll extract/replace the folder.

    Thanks for the info guys.
