Awesome.
Abolishing slavery is nowhere near as important as destroying the American economy in the 80's. You guys did a good job.

Wait. Albert Einstein was an American? I thought he was German.
Jesus Christ, V MAN. That's not a big or clever thing to say.

I expect he was given US citizenship in exchange for his talents

Where's Thomas Edison? The Wright Brothers?

Still, I wouldn't think of Einstein as an American, even if he was an American citizen. I don't find it surprising that he didn't make top ten in "The Greatest Americans of All Time".
IIRC, the Brit version of this poll had some munchkins in the top ten, and possible Great Britons from the 19th C were neglected. Most people just don't look that far back.

I was dreading the idiot housewives of England spam voting Princess Diana to the top spot.

I am certainly not discounting President Lincoln's accomplishments during his terms. I merely pointed out (from the source) why more people voted for Reagan.
Bogus nonsense.

Ronald Reagan, voted greatest American by AOL users.
That explains a few things . . .
I feel those who voted were more influenced by recent events than history, which is understandable particularly since Ronald Reagan recently passed away. It was a "sympathy" vote if you will.

So he won because he died, rather than because of what he did. Awesome.

Geeeeeeeeeeeeeze man, go back and read my original quote from the source. His death coupled with other factors was responsible for his winning. I'm NOT saying I agree with it, I'm just saying why he won the vote, according to quotes from your source.
I already know he did the stuff you've quoted, I'm also saying that he did a bunch of OTHER stuff which negates the good stuff he did out because it was really bad.

If you recall, Lincoln suspended the writ of Habeas Corpus to do so. If George W. did the same you have no idea how much of the American peoples' ire that he would draw (including my own).
The greatest American ever was obviously Woody Guthrie.
*edit* Reagan was a goon. He doesn't even rank in the top ten presidents, let alone the top ten Americans ever.
What the hell? I mean I know its public opinion and all, but...what the hell? Surely people can find someone greater than Oprah to vote for?

QFT! I mean, why are we even dabating Ronnie Reagan when Oprah's on the list?
