It was particularly difficult for me as I had a bodybuilder's frame and certainly not a runner's build.
It was not my intention to fly off on a tangent here. Talking about training, and in particular the preparedness necessary for it, is something I enjoy dearly. When we selected the marathon/s to be run each year, I normally set up the 4 month training schedule, and then lead my group...cracked the whip so to speak. I never ever drank alcohol or ate fried foods while training, and drank copious amounts of water, daily. Sometimes we would run a marathon as a training run for another one 3 or 4 weeks later.
back to you .... ... .. .

Alrighty... it is the second day of the third week, which means today we get to start the parallel parking tests, now today it is just attempts, the actual test will be wednesday of next week.
So, when I come home tonight, I shall tell you people exactly how fast we are supposed to parallel park and be out of the vechile ready for action. :-)

Reminds me of my very first test for a chaueffer's license: I had to parallel park an 18 wheeler on the FIRST try with only 1 pull ahead allowed, and have ALL tires within 12" of the curb (this was in NY state, maybe around 1971). Needless to say they had schools that focused on very little other than parallel parking a big rig.
I never had to parallel park an 18 wheeler in 31 years of driving. Ever. GG State of N.Y.!
@Venmoch: It is needed as you are not allowed to park on the sidewalk, police or not.
@Depot: It is needed to help weed out the one other person for the canidancy for the job. We have four people, there are three spots. It also tests your reactions speeds just in case of emergency, now while SF doesn't exactly have a high crime rate and it will be rare that one should ever need to use this maneuver (stopping at a high rate of speed while parrallel to the curb) it may come in handy at times.
So.. on that note the time we must make is one minute and forty-five seconds. Stopping parallel to the corner, while traveling at least 40mph, then jumping out and ready for action, without messing up. Sadly, no one today even came close, I was 2nd to last at 4 minutes and the first place was at 3 mins. We all have a lot of improve upon. :-)

You don't need parallel parking.
