Is It Difficult ? (Attempting It Soon)
Ok here's the deal:

At the weekend a friend of mine filmed alot of footage of me and my friends at a local fair type thing. Today I got thinking that maybe I could somehow transfer that footage from her camcorder thingy to my pc and then convert the footage and burn it to a DVD.

So... Is this kinda thing easy? She's bringing the camera here soon for me to take a look at along with any wires/connectors etc. (I think it's a Sharp Viewcam and quite new.)

Anyone here attempted such a feat and have any knowledge that maybe helpful?

Thanks.

In windows XP there is a movie maker program called... Windows Movie Maker , Yeh I know MS just isn't very creative with names.

you can connect the camcorder to your firewire connector and select record from the file menu. You can then use the camcoder using the buttons on screen. And record anything you want (self explainatory really)

Now if you have another program (pinacle, premiere or the likes) you have an even better program to use. To compress it I would use virtual dub, a freeware program you can find on the internet.

It really isn't hard to do all this

There are a few steps you need to know necro, and I shall use list them below.

Make sure camcorder has either USB/Firewire

Make sure your computer has USB or firewire

Use either a 3rd party editing program or windows movie maker

Connect commonets, it may require drivers for the camcorder to be recgonized by the computer

If they have a file transfering option (assuming the video is in digital format) use it

Else you will have to use analog video stream capture.(If you do this option make sure you have AT LEAST 40 GIGABYTES FREE. Recording streaming video in analog is really, really, really huge. A basic 30 mins can be up to 30-40gig.)

Once that is done, you can then either edit the video with movie maker or other (Priemere (Pinnicle suit))

Then you can convert it to DVD with either virtual dub or the 3rd party app.

Then use either windows built in WIN DVD creator or whatever else to write DVD

Make sure to match the speed of the DVD to the speed of your DVD burner(Else you will burn out either the burning laser or just create an expensive coaster.)

Enjoy the film on just about any DVD player now.

You can also transfer video through your graphics card if you have VIVO.
Worked like a charm for my film class project.
