<div class="IPBDescription">need help with what the problem is...</div> Hi this is for you web designers/developers.

I am helping develop a website which has now been complete except that from time to time I have to jump in again to reupdate it for them.

Now last month everything was working fine. Suddently this month I can't edit the files at all. Basically this is what is happening on the FTP.

I can
Download/View a current file
Add a new file
Manipulate that new file as much as I want to. (rename, delete etc)

I cannot
Edit current file
Manipulate any CURRENT file anyhow I want to (rename, delete etc)

The server is a Windows NT4 server and I do not have direct remote access to it. The problem really boggles me and I am trying to come up with what is going on exactly so that I can pass it on to the website owners where they will then contact the webspace provider.

I have been trying to confirm as well if its just my connection or my ftp prorgam. Is there a way to see what is the current permission on a file on an ftp site?

Any ideas? Thanks

Just download the old file (unless you have it on your computer already, which is the most probable case), make modifications and reupload. That's how I do it, and it works. I can use Dreamweaver that way more easily, no fuss.

To check permissions use the CHMod command. The CHMod interface depends on the FTP client, so look around.

Thats the problem. I can't even overwrite the old files. Keeps telling me access denied.

Sounds like your permissions have changed. Do you have access to the CHMod interface?

I thought that CHMod was only for Linux/UNIX based servers... What FTP client are you using?
