No, seriously, chill the **** out and get a more relaxed attitude towards driving. There's nothing worse than somebody hugging your fender, particularly when you ARE driving at the speed limit. If you have to brake hard for some reason, they'll just plow into your rear end.
Heck, think of yourself: Smashing into the back of another car is that kind of accident that's REALLY hard to explain to your insurance company.

The speed limit is posted for ideal conditions. If weather or traffic dictate otherwise you are expected to adjust your speed accordingly.
And if ANYone is driving 5 or 10 mph under the speed limit take a chill pill and deal with it. If they're driving to slow and creating a hazard, notify the police and let THEM deal with it. Stop acting like a damn vigilante ffs.

2. Actually, the minimum speed on the interstate highways in Michigan are 75/55MPH, 55MPH being the minimum. So it's not 1-3MPH, it's actually 15MPH. Does that mean I go that slow? Only when I feel I have to: otherwise I go a safe speed near the speed limit. Usually, in order to not cause traffic jams, I go whatever speed the rest of the highway drivers are going, which is often over the speed limit. I used the highway speeds to give a wider range of speeds: realistically, the highway is the (only) place I am willing to go faster than the speed limit.
I don't know what you mean by "slowing down/speeding up a lot", though.

Speeders get pulled over and ticketed by police. My driving instructor told me that speed limits are "Requirements, not recommendations."
I want to clarify my previous post: the fastest I've ever gone on a highway is around 80MPH. I've only done that a few times. Usually I'm at 60-70MPH (70MPH being the speed limit). I don't have a problem driving slower than everyone else, although I always make sure if I need to go slower, I stick to the right lane. I don't regularly go faster than the speed limit on highways: however, if I want to pass someone and I need to go 80MPH because I'm in the "fast lane", I will do so. Just wanted to make sure I didn't sound like I was contradicting everything I said, heh.

Alright lets try to stay a bit more on topic then usual eh?
First off:
Quan if I could I would prefer an automatic, not because I learned on one, ( I didn't) but because if you buy a performance car in real world settings those minor increases in power, do not justify the hassle of always having to change gears, especially in city settings, now if you were to live in the country, then it would work out better. As you can stay in one gear longer. Which is why, generally city dwellers burn up clutches more then country, on a manual only.
In addition, CVT's have been in europe for quite some time, probably just on the pricer models. In the US, at the moment, there are only a few that offer them, and they are.

Saturn Vue (SUV)

Audi A4 and A6 (German company, of course nice luxury cars as well, not very quick over all though)

Nissian Murano (A very fast SUV)

Honda Insight

CVT's are also faster then any other transmission as they don't have to shift gears, which makes them more efficent on mileage and horsepower/torque.
When you step on the gas pedal of a car with a continuously variable transmission, you notice the difference immediately. The engine revs up toward the rpms at which it produces the most power, and then it stays there. But the car doesn't react immediately. Then, a moment later, the transmission kicks in, accelerating the car slowly, steadily and without any shifts. In theory, a car with a CVT should reach 60 mph (100 km/hr) 25-percent faster than the same car with the same engine and a manual transmission [ref]. That's because the CVT converts every point on the engine's operating curve to a corresponding point on its own operating curve.
If you look at the power output curve for the car without a CVT, you can see this to be true. Notice that the tachometer in this situation shows the engine revving up and down with each gear change, which is recorded as a spike in the power output curve (and which the driver feels as a jolt).
CVTs are equally efficient on hills. There is no "gear hunting," because the CVT cycles steplessly down to a gear ratio appropriate for the driving conditions. A conventional automatic transmission shifts back and forth trying to find the right gear, which is far less efficient.
Triptronic transmissions actually started with Audi, Porsche adopted it next, then Mits then Nissian and now even Ford has one. :-)
And if ANYone is driving 5 or 10 mph under the speed limit take a chill pill and deal with it. If they're driving to slow and creating a hazard, notify the police and let THEM deal with it. @Metalcat: They are slightly more expensive then your standard automatic, they are also a tad bit heavier (around 10 to 25lbs) since they are quite a bit more efficient, well that more then makes up for it. It also goes to show they aren't that expensive if saturn is putting them in their Vues.
Just to boggle Cyndanes mind their is actually IVT as well (Infinitely Variable Transmission) primarily used on heavy machinery E.G Tractors.
As for me giving I haven’t passed my driving test yet and in the UK if you pass on an automatic you are only allowed to drive automatics ill have to say manuals.
As for the debate on CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) it is the way forward over Manuals and automatics that use torque converters and heavy fluid filled flywheels. CVT gearboxes allow the engine to always run at its most efficient; estimates say you can save up to 35% on fuel by switching.
As for my favourite type of transmission sequential has to win, with a gear change time of under .1 of a second it really cant be beat for performance and flexibility. Shame about the cost of sequential gearboxes, mainly why they are only used on very high performance cars.

I never said I tailgate. I usually stay about 20 feet behind the car in front of me, except at stops, in which its about 5-7 feet. If someone's in my way, I either pass them or change roads.

I don't know what you mean by "slowing down/speeding up a lot", though.
Well, if we're going to go to anecdotal evidence, then let me give you some of my experiences.

Depot, my dad has been a Truck Driver, and heavy equipment operator, for as long as you. He's done professional driving since the age of 17, and he's at 53 now. He agrees with me fully. Its not borderline road rage, its simple disliking. **** off isn't always a rage.

is cvt expensive? cheap? the same as auto? the same as manual? the same as a bike?

CVT's really aren't that popular yet, and certainly not one of the 2 options listed by the author.
I do think it's been established that driving an automatic is certainly no less "driving" than a manual.

I mean unofficially, not legally. It tends to bother some other drivers if you go more than 3 MPH under the limit.

Er, that was my mistake. I didn't word it properly. What I meant was, if you go more than 5 MPH below the speed limit or more than 10 MPH above the limit, when it's not absolutely necessary.

Stop telling people how they feel when they've just told you that that is not how they feel.

Just because it's not a big deal to you doesn't mean that it isn't a big deal for others. Everyone deals with stress in their own way. Some prefer to let it out, others prefer to bottle it up, others prefer to dissipate it.
