I hate pennies, their not of much use. Their the only change I dont save at the end of the day <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

hmm I thought they did, (in fact i know they did) a study of what would happen if the penny was gotten rid of and everything would be rounded up to a nickle.
More expensive stuff, thats what.
Just look at gas prices which are already rounded out to the 0.00X place.
Just b/c you get rid of the penny doesnt mean that the value of the nickle and all the other demoniations of currency will change as well.
Heh I don't remember a Euro cent coin (there's a 2cent coin), but if there was, both the 1 and 2 cent coins are so rarely used it's not funny.
Also, one hundredth of a dollar is still money. For example, something costs x.98 at a grocerie's. Let's say you buy 50 items, that's already a dollar more you'll have to pay. Give a vendor the chance to make things more expensive, and he'll do it.
Also, one penny is not the smallest amount physical money can go <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> The rest of the world isn't imaginary.

Now give the 7 cent nickel a chance - if that works out next year we can have an 8 cent nickel. You could go to a newsstand, buy a 3 cent newspaper and get the same nickel back again. One nickel carefully used would last a family a lifetime.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
We need to keep the penny around incase we get some major deflation and we need to bring back the half-penny. Although, I'd much prefer pennies stay around and prices become dictated to .95/.00 values instead of .98/.99, because anyone convinced to buy something because it's, "OMG, one cent cheaper!" needs to be shot (although, I can see 19,998.00 instead of 20000.00...because that saves you ~2.11 (...hooray 5.5% sales tax?) around here, which is acutally something useful).
If you didn't have pennies what would you grip tightly and mutter to yourself before throwing into a wishing well. I long for the day that a penny does what i ask of it... but hey, such is life.
