Guess it's time to start reading the book. And yeah. It's already been spoiled for me. Don't bother. Yeah I saw it.

Ever.

That's not true! We have an excellent fan fiction collection. You need to be careful and wise of where you go to read. Different collections have different rules and different authors have different morals. It's unfair to say all fan fiction is bad because the majority are not like and some are really good.
Sorry but I think all fanfics are bad by their very nature because of the core ideal of taking someone else's characters and trying to make them act. It doesn't work. No matter how close you feel you replicate their personality there's going to be some action or words that people won't feel fit the character and they're probably right :p
The only 'fanfic' stuff I'd maybe let slide is people making their own chars in an existing world as long as they don't break the basic settings (like being more powerful than pure mazoku in the slayers world; there's only one sword of light after all :p ). That's why I sorta ran roleplays based in the Phantasy Star Online world way way back; there was a place for stories too! Because all the chars were people's own and they shared a common world it worked rather well power-players aside ^^
Dirk Gently Holistic Detective of AHL RP Servers lives! Madcap roleplaying in random settings is far greater than character 'theft'.
Yeah, to be honest, I agree about that fanfic thing. You don't take someone elses' literature and try to write it yourself. It just goes against the nature of the thing. Now taking a setting is different. It depends on the setting though. Like, I doubt very many people can pull off a Fanfic set in an organic setting like say, Discworld. I mean, it takes a certain talent to pull that place off.

I think we can all agree on that, except for Rat who has a thing for little girls...perv.

Stupidity.
Heh *Ding* you move on to the prize round.
I think the thing that freaked me out the most about this wasn't so much the content as much as the people writing it.
Many of them appear to be middle aged woman, probably functioning in society on some level, perhaps even with kids...
Could you imagine some poor teenage son perusing through fan stories one day only to notice his families e-mail address in the authors profile...

The LJ word...**** ******* should be a censored word on these forums, it invokes far worse imagery then words like ***** or ******
