<div class="IPBDescription">My first lan O.o</div> So yes, I'm going to have a few day LAN party with friends of mine, but I have no experience with it, only thing I was told was to bring my PC, monitor, mouse and keyboard, LAN cable, USB hub, USB HDDdisk and my headset.
Any tips from the experienced LAN'ers?

dont bring electric devices that use up much energy
the whole circuit might go down <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
dont forget a power-strip!
(correct word? dict.leo.org ftw)
and remember your coke <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
are whatever source of coffein you wish <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
all your cds with your games would be helpful too
that should be enough for now
Oh, and make sure all of your anti virus stuff is uptodate, b/c you can be sure that some one there sucks and has their puter compleatly infested <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
<i>Lots of soda.</i>
True LANers take it well into the night and past morning. No sleep for the win.
this will be so great, lots of coke, pizza, no sleep, sitting in front of the pc in apathy
the rest of the pizza will be breakfast <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
and that for 1 or 2 days <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
not to forget leeching my 160 gbs full
1. Don't sleep, what ever you do, do not fall asleep.
2. Eat only pizzas... and not normal sized ones, family sized ones.
3. Have fun, and bring alot of soda ^^
also bring backups of your software, particulary your OS, in case there is a problem.
If you are competing, make sure you get sleep, and pal around with your teammates out of game.
Also when competiting, use in game voice comm, and keep your headset on. I did the half ear thing in a CS tourney on LAN one game and I got destroyed.
If not stay up.
If you want to talk ****, make sure you can handle yourself in a physical confrontation, or not care if you get beat up.
anyways, yeah, ive seen people get beat up before... the internet is usually a lovely faceless place where you can say w/e you like. but at a lan party, you call the guy a hacking noob bastard., and he will most likely turn out to be the massive guy sitting in the corner, with his 4 massive clan mates.
And wow, easy now Moquaio. Rapier made an assumption, no need to go flaming for that. Let's keep the thread civil.
Or do. I forget.
Anway, I'm at it now, all working, except my shares, I can reach all my LAN buddies and they can all reach the rest except me <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> .
Any idea how to fix this.
Drinks: Golden Power (red bull clone = no sleep O.o)
i think my first lan was when i was 12, or 11 or something, it was a massive lan with 40 people <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
my dad hosted it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> AWESOME go sek

hm, search via ip and/or computername
change your network place to the one the other have aka 1 workplace for all
if you have a similar os it should work
if not and you want stuff from your friends let them give it to you (aka give write access to your hd and let them write it to your disk, but remember to set the correct guest-policies and password)
-same IP range
-same workgroup
-disabled windows firewall
-rights: Everyone - All rights
I'm eating Smiths Corn Nacho Cheese (thought it was Lays..hmm) with some sausage, and drinking my second Golden Power
And my pc still refuses to share my wa....files.
Ahh well, it's just like online gaming, a lot more bandwith and I can slap them in the face (and get punched knock out) if I want too.

You poor, poor soul.
Whatever you do don't take speakers; take headphones.
