<div class="IPBDescription">No, not about the game. About YOU.</div> I think that as a marine commander, me and my fellows get a bad rap. The general infantry is always complaining about bad commanders, people who don't know the maps, people who don't know the tech tree, people who this, and people who that.
Here is my rebuttal.
Top 10 Commander griefs against the Infantry.
10. " Weapon (x) pls. Now. Weapon (x). NOW. OMGF!!!!1" /eject commander
9. "Sir, we need at leaste 3 more infantry portals at this base. One for each of us. What do you mean no? You're such a n00b. omg. I LOVE YOU!!"
8. "I say my brothers friend commanding, and this is what he did. And it worked and he won. It doesn't matter if this map doesn't have a hive layout like that, you're still an idiot."
7. "Shottie me." /die "Shottie me." /die "Shottie me" /die "You won't give me anything?! /eject commander.
6. "Drop ammo! Drop ammo! Drop ammo! Drop ammo! Drop ammo! What's an armoury? What's it do?"
5. "Follow your waypoints? Nah, I'm gonna go over here and " /die
4. "I think that's a dumb thing to build, so I'm not going to build it."
3. "Give me gun! You've got lots of resources! n00b, no-one saves up for a strategy, gimme now!!!!1" /eject commander
2. /die "I didn't realize that there was a reason you ordered me around this corner and not that one.... No, that's a dumb order, I'm going this way." /die / repeat * x
1. "Yes, there was four of us in a squad. Yes, we all died to one skulk. Yes, it happened more than once, and no, it's not our fault, it's your fault. you suck!! n00b! don't you know how to command?!!1?"

On a more serious note, yes, this is not only annoying to the commander, but the other grunts as well. Nothing quite like having a commander burn out or be ejected at exactly the wrong moment.
"Ok, we got them on the run! Just need some equip and then we can do some real damage. Huh? What do you mean the commander ran off to get married to the dropship pilot? Oh, and Mr. NEED HGM NOW1!11 just stepped into the CC?

I wish the boys I commanded were as civil as that.

i swear, tons of people have a mic, but NOONE uses it and thus it degenerates into those abbreviations that only mean something to themselves and they expect the commander to know them.
Is it because most 1337 g33ks that have Vcom capabilities are ashamed to speak their quirky voices? Personally, i've had people ask me if i'm either thirty years old or a very husky girl. <b>Be ashamed not to communicate! These are the things that can save your life! Go forward! Speak boldly in your malsynqued voices! The Frontiersmen have a fighting chance that way!</b>

There should be a way for a commander to punish bothersom players for acting childish like that.

Better yet, a system like Black & White. Pick the marines up and drop them in front of something that needs building. Or offer them to the alien gods as sacrifice. =)

Anyway, I tried commander for the first time last night, and surprisingly, no one voted me out or acted like an **obscenity**. I guess I'm just lucky, or I haven't played it enough. But yeah, the marines need to stick together more. Part of the problem was grouping them together. Is there a way to zap to a specific marine's location, like clicking on their name on the scoreboard? Cause that would definitely help for team organization. Often times they'll just say "health", instead of using radio commands, and you can't find them quick enough.
Marines dance frantically around the Armory as it chugs along creating the deadly payload marines will carry into combat. From overhead the hand of the Commander appears. Expectantly the Marines gaze up, for the Commander is powerful; his wrath terrible, but his favour divine.
The Hand points to the ground near the Marines and they shrink back, unknowing of what is to come. The ground near the Armory explodes into blue sparks!
*FAVooM* Miracle HMG *FAVooM* again and again HMGs appear for the battle hungry troops.
"Hurray for the Commander!" shout the Marines as they grab up their shiny new equipment.
Yeah that's what I said when I was **obscenity** off as a commander.
I said "if you think you're so great you come command then"
He said "no"
Then a few seconds later a flood of requests come...
I have about 200 resources at that tiem I believe, but i was trying to help my crew in the hive location under attack, and building stuff there
Wow, noone goes there, and I was still being asked for guns, stuff... while noone is in the mainbase.
So i said, "that's it, i resign, someone else take the chair, i'm through with this **obscenity**"
then that guy took over the seat
and things went straight down from then on.
Oh, and a side note... I don't agree to the slappingand picking up thing...
slapping could be abused by **obscenity** commanders...
and picking up could be abused, or total advantage to the marines...
i just hope you guys are not too serious on those thoughts <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
But then again thanks to a few ammo packs and 2 health packs from a commander I did take out 6 skulks in a row, in groups of 2! The kills were around 1-3 seconds apart.
Or...I get marines who try and type stuff...and don't type correctly so i can read and understand it. Or I am being flooded by people chatting and typing and they all expect me to be able to pick it all up at once, I have to remind Marines that I don't look at the text often because I miss it while doing three things at once and to be patient.
My only other problem is when someone hogs the voice comm net so I can't figure out who needs what and have to start yelling at them to do it one at a time and be short and brief. After that is when someone tries to speak and is either quiet as all hell or breaks up constantly and I can't understand them.
That is all.
But seriously though, SO TRUE!
Even if you are not being commander, help out the comm and be the ground commander, tell your mariens to check teh ceilings, micro-manage them.... that sort of thing.
Suffice to say, I can definately sympathyse with top 10 commander griefers. Silly d00d, your either a team player or you shouldn't play at all.
