Cwag, where do you play, and what country are you in? i dont need to go too far to find good CO servers, a good NS server, now THOSE are few and far between on my Aussie servers

Simple answer for players who want too play NS is too join a decent gather community <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo--> Good players and ussaly there isint idiots..
Personaly i think CO has ruined NS, The devs have taken a diffrent path too which they were planning i think (meaning the stradtgy teamwork side) Although they are concentration on NS i think CO has been polished up more. TBH thats my opion
1. I think it's mostly CWAG. A lot of the people who play combat do so for quick fun and aren't inclined to post on this board or even necessarily read it. This community has never been particularly harmonious. Even before combat came out people would ridicule you for playing on the "wrong" server. These boards had plenty of problems before and combat is just the latest issue.

Eh? We've been at each other's throats since 1.0 was released. If it's not one thing, it's another. If it's not combat, it's clans vs. pubs. If it's not that, it's doomsday predictions. X is overpowered. Clan scene is dying/stagnant. scorpions. The list goes on and on.
2. Combat is fun for what it is; a team deathmatch. As a trainer for regular NS I think it doesn't do particularly well since it doesn't emphasize the importants of resources. I think at this point it should just be made into a stand alone game and balanced seperately.
3. Both, really. Classic isn't able to put up the numbers that combat can bring in and classic is, for all intents and purposes, really old. NS is 2.5 years old and running on an engine that's what? 10 years old? New games will come out and siphon players away. People will get bored with it. Having two modes, a slower, strategy based mode and a faster, more deathmatchy mode will bring in more types of players. If you look at the trends in popular games, the second is always more popular.

I usually find more teamwork on combat servers than I do on classic servers unless you count cooperative building to be the paragon of teamwork.
I don't have as much experience as most of you do, but I did have a parallel to draw with a game that I loved, that died because of choices that look like the choices being made in NS (somewhat)
I'll keep the flashback short:
<<<<<==========>>>>> The game was Jedi Outcast, and when it was released it was excellent. A lot of skill, elegance / etc.
Lucasarts then released two subsequent patches, addressing 'bugs' in the game, which were better described as gameplay fixes. Effectively they removed the 'spammed' attacks, which would be like removing the AWP in CS because it's "lame". This would have killed JO but it was possible to play the unpatched version (which MANY people did, despite some real bugs.)
Later, after I had enjoyed playing a large amount of Cap The Flag on that game, the main CTF server-hosting clans decided that a certain telekinesis was "lame" and "no fun" to play with. Which it wasn't. So they decided to remove Force from their servers, (which ended up being practically all of them) favoring chasing the flagger around in a bunnyhop fest. Effectively, the game became a racing game. <<<<<==========>>>>>
Alright, enough history. The parallel I see in NS is the large amount of people wanting a more simplistic game to play, probably because they're frustrated with ns_ or don't have the patience for it. I have no idea how to stop this, since even though I fought it tooth and nail, (including trying to train new players in force so that they wouldn't get frustrated with it out of ignorance) Jedi Outcast has all but nullified itself (for CTF at least).
If I've spoken out of turn, then I'm sorry. But I just don't want to see another killer game crush itself into oblivion due to short attention spans.
