Dear reader:

Welcome to the terrordome! Two weeks ago, I purchased - well, aw hell, I'll just copy and paste the letter that I sent to Hyundai customer service:

<!--QuoteBegin-me @ like last night+--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (me @ like last night)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Ms. Yuen:

    Recently (rec'd 7/20) I purchased, from online retailer newegg.com, a good sum of computer hardware.  Among these items, I purchased a 19 inch Hyundai ImageQuest L90D+ LCD monitor.  Upon installing these parts, I immediately discovered that the monitor in question had what seemed to be a thin solid line of cyan-blue that stretched from the top of the screen to the bottom; this line appears approximately three quarters of the way from the left edge of the screen.  All of my own attempts at repairing this trouble have been, as of now, unsuccessful.

    After disconnecting the video card for testing purposes and running several diagnostic routines I have determined that this is not a software problem and is, in all likelihood, a case of a defective monitor.  Armed with this knowledge I retrieved my product warranty card and now I have written you to request to return this monitor as a DOA, in exchange for a unit that is not defective.

    The literature that was packaged with this monitor explains that I will need a certain UPS collect account number in order to successfully ship this unit for replacement, and I would very much appreciate it if you could get me this number as soon as possible.

    Thank you for your time.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

As I've mentioned to Ms. Yuen, I've done everything that I could imagine to try to, you know, make this thing work right. Enter yourselves, humble readers. For all you who have made it this far (if you have, give yourselves a well-deserved pat on the back): do you have any ideas? Otherwise I'm going to have to RMA this thing and be monitor-less for the next two weeks or whatever.

You the best,
Dubbilex

PS: I lied a little about those crippling troubles that I speak of. To be more precise, at this moment I see four lines, roughly the same colors that I have utilised on the helpful diagram below:

    See, therein lies one piece of this problem: the lines will appear and disappear, seemingly at random. Right now there are three. Usually moving my mouse over the line will bring that number back to four. Yep. There it is.

    They'd best be giving me a new monitor. That's all I'm saying <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Yea could be hardware related then, LCD's have tons of IC chips in them, one pin disconnected could cause armageddon on your monitor <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    i just got my L90D+ yesterday, and mine came with a box that had a hole in it from being dropped on something sharp. the foam packaging was cracked and when we hooked it up at the store it was fine. if i find defects and I can return it to the retailer wihtin 14 days. after that i'll have to send it back to hyundai. what is newegg's policy on this? can you simply return this to newegg for a replacement?
  • DubbilexDubbilex Chump Join Date: 2002-11-24 Member: 9799Members
    Newegg has an account RMA page from which everything can be done online. According to that page, all monitors bought from newegg are waranteed by the manufacturer only. Luckily enough, the monitor came with a card listing the guidelines for RMAing the thing, with some contact information on the bottom.

    Now, according to the warrantee, there are two types of units that one will need to replace - DOA or Non-DOA (DOA meaning, and this might be a stretch, Dead On Arrival). Since mine was broken when it got here, Hyundai will pay for my shipping. The DOA period is 60 days to the distributor/dealer and 30 days to end user.

    Failing that, this thing has a three-year warrantee. If I were to return it under that condition, I would need to pay the twenty bucks to get it shipped.

    So I guess long story short, newegg forces you to go through the manufacturer.

    RMA it, and then just go to Best Buy and go for a 19 inch flatscreen CRT.

    Cathode Rays, accept no substitutes. LCD Monitors are _horrible_ for gaming.

    I hate to say it, but I agree. If you want a killer gaming CRT this one come highly reccomended:

    Lower latency LCD monitors don't have any problems with ghosting, and I'm willing to give up the ability to accurately render super dark colors in lieu of having ten times the amount of free deskspace. I'd never buy another CRT screen.

    *edit* I just need to hope that the fact that I waited about two weeks doesn't void the DOA thing. I was hoping that it would go away with time. Either way, good to know that it's not my fault <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    With the money you save from buying a CRT you can purchase a bigger desk. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Pfft, you want an Iiyama Vision Master Pro 454, pretty much the best 19" CRT money can buy (in the consumer section at least)

    SILENCE PUNY MORTAL!

    Back on topic, does anyone know what the Euro -> Dollar conversion ratio is? I want to know how much a 225 Euro montior would be in USD.
  • BulletHeadBulletHead Join Date: 2004-07-22 Member: 30049Members
    Hmm... it'd be roughly 350 USD. The conversion is something like 1 Euro to 1.5 dollars... which is why the UK won't switch from the pound, which is nearly 1 to 1.98 USD

    Sheesh, I bought a Princeton 17" (They messed up and gave me either a 20 or a 19 inch though... or this is the biggest 17 inch I've EVER seen, seriously, it's all screen.) And I get no ghosting or any of the other reported problems with LCDs
