Oh My God Why!
<div class="IPBDescription">Such pain from nothing!</div> I was taking a quick cat nap just recently and wake up and stretch my legs out of the bed...
Next thing I know it feels as if someone has torn my lower leg off.
I must have somehow moved one of tendons out of place with nothing more then an innocent post-nap stretch.
I think I might have just felt the worst pain I have ever felt in my entire life...I think I screamed out loud and I remember jerking around like a beetle with one wing ripped off and I feel out of bed and god damn passed out cold.
I have never passed out from pain before, so I think I just found my threshold today...heh.
I woke up about 20 mins ago and apparently all the blood in my body decided that hanging out in my arms and face was a bad idea with me not at the helm...stupid body.
Everything else seems to be in working order, I thought a forum post would be the best way to test out my physical prowess after such an incident. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Mercifully my tendon/muscle is back in place and only hurts if I put pressure on it...which as of now is a blessing but I'm sure I'll be **** about when I get hungry and need to get up.

You hyperextended it - I'm assuming the pain was in the back of your calf? If so, what you did was, as you stretched your legs out, you curled your toes (which loosens those muscels) but then pointed them again while the calf was still tight- the tendons got pulled 2 ways at once and the result = cramp+hyperextension in the same place at same time = OH DEAR GOD
I do this to myself on purpose in order to push my threshold. I can do it now and it doesn't even "hurt" as much as it's just an annoyance <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->

idiot... you should streatch it- yes it'll hurt like hell while you stretch, but once you've "pulled" the muscle back into it's normal position it'll relax and the pain will subside
There's a problem with the cartilage (sp?) in my jaw-socket thing, so my jaw doesn't quite fit in right, so it pops out at least once every two days, as well as clacking like mad whenever I chew <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad-fix.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad-fix.gif' /><!--endemo-->
You get used it though, so it's not that big a deal. Getting punched in the jaw has disasterous results, though.

You hit the nail on the head, thank you; at least I know what I did now.
If you do this to yourself on purpose you are not human and scare me...I mean I'm not exactly a Greek god but I'm not out of shape ether, heck I ran cross country last year. This was just random and horrible.

Heh as fate would have it I am having lunch with an Army nurse tomorrow, although I'm not going to bring it up unless she notices me limping, which there is a high probability of.

I don't know this stretch wasn't any different then one I always do after I wake up, and temperature certainly wasn't a factor it's like 90 degrees in here.
The fact that my face and arms were cold is what scared me but I remember reading something about the blood pulling into the torso during "emergencies" to protect the organs, so hopefully that’s why.
I'm actually scared ****-less I'm going to accidentally forget and stretch tomorrow morning and do this again.
BTW Bullet, it's still pretty tight and I can't seem to bend or put any pressure on this muscle yet, what would you recommend? Rest, ice?

What usually helps for me is to touch my leg and keep it absolutely still, and visualize "sucking" the pain out of my leg, allowing it to enter my fingers and just float away out of my fingernails.

I agree with this procedure, and can verify it works. Many a marathon I "hit the wall" and had to actually talk the "discomfort" away, just to do the last 5 or 6 miles.

Well, that depends how much pain you can take
I usually stand beside my bed and bend over AT THE WAISTE so I'm at a 45 degree angle to the floor- then SLOWLY bring your legs into a straight line with your upper body- unbend your waist while you bend at the ankles
it'll HURT like a bish, but it'll help loosen it up- a few things though
DO NOT BOUNCE! It must be A SLOW MOVEMENT or else you risk TEARING your achilies tendon and other various ligaments and tendons. You could even tear the muscle itself, which would be BAD.
Do not continue down untill you can FEEL it loosening up a little. It may take you half an hour to get the entire way straight, but it WILL feel better after. Just be patient.
The more this happens to you, the more you will get used to it, and the quicker you can get over it.
EDIT- if you are good at meditation, close your eyes and visualize yourself being "detatched" from yoru body- I do that when I'm having a cavity filled (which is, thankfully, rare) and it works pretty well- you can feel the pain, but it's like hearing a voice from a mile away. very distant and... well.. not painful

I'm not in good shape by any standard. With my mom being hurt, and I dont' have my license yet, I have no way to get to the gym... IIRC, that's when you're going into hyperthermia. The blood pulls to the core of the body to protect your more important organs, thus is why your limbs get frostbite first, and get it worse.
I have no idea why but it relived some of the tightness and pain.
I still have a fairly noticeable limp, which I think I'm just going to have to put up with for a little while.

Wimp. I used to get off work at 2 or 3 pm, go home and change clothes, drive downtown and run 3 2mile loops over 2 high bridges in 95f degree heat. Every Tuesday. Religiously. That's right, 6 miles.

Honestly this has never happened to me before and I'm still not entirely sure if it was a muscle or a tendon.
