Organizing The Mapping Forum...

I was just wondering... look in this forum for maps is kind of tricky... there is the stickies, but I was thinking maybe you guys could open up a subforum, and have each thread in that forum dedicated to a different map. Like one for ns_orbital, shiva, tanith, core, and every map that is on its way to either being in the final build or in the final build... Basically just 90% or more "finished" maps. And a place to have maps that are of good quality.

It would do really two things, server owners who are looking to add to their maps but want something polished, and don't want to have to dig through sites to find it. And it would allow a one stop place for people to provide feedback and mappers to get a feel of what the community thinks too. Also would allow devs to say what they think that needs to be done to have the map be "finished".

Indeed, a map WIP forum would be pretty awesome, then you cannot lose track of topics and it keeps them all orderly <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

There is a release thread in the stickies, and there's also a search function.

It's pretty much like the I&S Forum. If a thread still has something to be said about it (if there are updates to the WIP) it'll be in the first two pages. If the public want updates to a particular map they can PM the mapper or search the map and bump it.

It's better to PM the mapper imo, because sometimes the bumps just prompt off-topic tangents that derail the WIP thread.

Yes, this is all well and good, but the release topic seems silly. Only 20 people have posted maps on that sticky. And over half the topics on the front page are webbed. I was thinking of an entire subforum for mappers to showcase their maps. Maps only, not questions, not anything. Just maps.

There is the search function, but this keeps it orderly too. And it would also be sort of a goal for mappers to get their map to this forum. Also would allow the mapper to ask for people to playtest it, and give some feedback. Search function is also slow for me at times.

Its just easier to do it this way, because you can just pop onto the forum check the thread, because it will likely be on the first page or so, and pop off a PM or post a reply.
