<div class="IPBDescription">Win when your losing!</div> This has happened to me a couple of times now.. acheiving total alien victory when it seemed that you had no hope in hell of coming back into the game. One alien can easily take out an entire marine base if they work at it, and the marines are busy elsewhere. Maps such as bast or hera, where there is a large vent at the back of the marine spawn, makes this even easier. Here is a tactic I used on bast before which pretty much won us the game.
While we still had 2 hives I ran as a skulk to the vent entrance that led up to the opening above the marine spawn. There was a marine base in the way so I had to leap it. I had improved sight and carapace as my upgrades. As soon as I got into the vent I evolved into a gorge and sealed up the vent entrance with webs. Then I moved up the ramp a bit and placed two offence chambers with a defence chamber to support them. Then just out of sight of the marine spawn I placed another def chamber. I then evolved into a fade. With def chamber support you dont need regen for this kind of operation, so having carapace was great. I started acid-rocket spamming their base, and while they had several options open to them (grenade launchers, seige guns) they could do nothing to stop me. I racked up about 20 kills and after 15 minutes I took down their turret factory, and started taking out their spawns. I told my team that there turrets were down and within a minute or two 4 skulks lept into action (by then we'd lost one of our hives). Soon enough the base came down.. and victory was ours. The marines were left a little flabbergasted, as they were pretty sure they were winning.
Its easily counterable but as a stale-mate breaker, its incredible.
Earlier today on nancy I managed to hide in the room the marines start in, and evolve into an Onos the minute we got a third hive up. We had been holed in the one hive but managed to break and get two up simultaneously. We only really had three hives for 5 minutes, so I was the only Onos to be produced. When I evolved we lost one hive, then another. Using primal scream and a bit of luck, I managed to take down their turret factory, spawns, and CC while the marines werent there. Caught with their pants down, as it were. Within 10 minutes we'd won. Marines were ***ed off. Again.
I guess the moral of this story is.. timing and opportunism is key to an alien turnaround. When the situation looks hopeless a quick CC destruction can really take the marines by surprise.
