I'm sorry Adj but it's true, the NS community has shrunk. Lots. There were about > 500 servers at any time (and 1000-1200 players iirc) before the site went down, no there's 274 (according to <a href="http://steampowered.com/status/game_stats.html)" target="_blank">http://steampowered.com/status/game_stats.html)</a>. Most of those are lvl50 combat with other stupid plugins.
Sure, and I admit, the site and forums being down for 11 months isn't the sole cause for this - people have moved on to other games, but you can't claim it didn't contribute to the (big) reduction of players and servers.
And are you a troll for speaking your mind just because it's negative feedback/you don't agree? Calling everyone that doesn't praise everything you do or agree with everything you say is pretty childish and naive. I hope that's not the case with you (neither do I claim it to be, you're one of the commanders I've looked up most to during my competitive ns days and I respect you lots.)
Although I don't disagree the community has become smaller, using server numbers to prove it is wrong, there was always too many servers to accomodate the player numbers. Which I suppose holds true for every steam game though.

Troll was a bit harsh, but I don't want the precedent of trashing NS to become the de facto standard. I myself have been pretty vocal about the NS site downtime since I got back because I thought it was pretty absurd myself, even though I had a good bit more of the information than the general public. I have a serious problem with people who go out of their way to make waves about it in public though, everyone knows the site has been down a while and likely contributed to the loss of some of the userbase. I doubt there is a dispute there. There's no need to go on about it in the "welcome back" thread the general public will most likely see when they get on,whenever the hell that happens to be. There will be enough random trolls that pop up to handle that, we don't need it from CMs too.
Simply accept what is done and move on, if you're going to be a snide ###### just save the general population some flaming and leave. Otherwise enjoy the forums and continue supporting NS.

the game/site doesn't just interface with the forums and the rest of the site, it also references every single server. on player join, quit and mapchange EVERY ns server checks to see if <i>your</i> icons are valid.
(steam) + (site) + (forums) = a little more difficult than just web aps.
I have an insurmountable respect for the people developing and contributing towards natural selection, by default all CM's and PT's are included in this fact... no matter how long it took them, we are back and for that, we should be happy. let those that are less privilaged gripe, for you my friend, have the blessing.

I've got to be perfectly honest, I haven't played Natural-Selection in quite some time. Everybody I know personally who plays it stopped somewhere over the last year, the main community that I was part of (Lunixmonster) eventually moved on, and that sort of took the fun out of it. But I'll certainly pick it up again once the community gets going again <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
EDIT: Wow, looking at my join date, this reminds me; NS is almost four years old. Has it really been that long? Seems like only yesterday I downloaded it late Halloween night and could barely sleep waiting to play it the day after.

Guys, consider TheAdj's words a friendly reminder. I'm certain flayra and the Dev teams have acknowledged and apologized for circumstances that have been out of their control plenty of times (publicly and privately). However, we are now at a crossroads where we have the forums nearly online, we have you here to test them out and we are moving forward. If you aren't interested in helping us to achieve that goal, then I will see to it you won't have the option any longer. Be civil, be polite, and do help us discover problems with the site that should be fixed!
Nothing like a "Welcome Back!" thread to stir up the ol' drama in the NS community.
As for myself, I wish the best to the community. No other game meant as much to me in the past three years, and at least now with the forums coming back online I know that it won't dissapear anytime soon. Best of luck to entire Unknown Worlds dev team, and good work bringing the website back up.

I think that some of the fans expectations of the game are somewhat unreasonable, given that Flayra is making the game in his free time and (pretty much) out of his own pocket.
So what that it has taken 11 months to get the site back up? Some people are making it sound like a big conspiracy where all the devs sat on their arses and tried to piss as may people off as possible.
As the old saying goes: time, cost and quality. Choose two.
