I get this message when trying to play NS.

<a href="http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/6550/cosava0002te1.jpg" target="_blank">http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/6550/cosava0002te1.jpg</a>
The score menu is all green, when there should be different colors.

<a href="http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/7338/cosava0004ft4.jpg" target="_blank">http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/7338/cosava0004ft4.jpg</a>
The co_ XP bar is all black.

My specs:
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
AMD FX-57
2GB RAM
2x NVIDIA 7800GTX (91.36 drivers)
WinXP x64

Anyone know the problem/solution?

There's a problem with some of the 9x.xx drivers where it renders NS sprites as black boxes. My internet is totally FUBAR at the moment so I can't load the images to see if it's related, but I'm told that the most recent forceware drivers fix this.

If not, then do what puzl says!

I have exactly the same errors/bugs as you.

gammerramp fixes the weird green colouring, but thats it.

The latest forceware drivers fix the sprite problems.

My screen is totally dark aswell, even thought the brightness is up too full.

I'am also experience lag problems with the keyboard and mouse.

Try the motherboard drivers supplied by the chipset manufacturer, and not the motherboard manufacturer. The otherproblems I can't help with =/

I get this same error when running in x86 Vista.

The cl_gammaramp 0 seems to fix the problem, and maxing the Brightness/Gamma options seems to compensate, but may not for everyone.

    Just a heads up.

    The obvious question: does this happen on ALL servers? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" />

All the ones I've tried, don't think it has anything to do with the server.

I believe it is server related, and to narrow it down, servers with AMXX installed.

Can't be, as I started up a listen server with the same result. Server running Windows/Linux dosn't affect it either.

And just to clarify, I'm not getting the black textures the first poster described, just the scoreboard problem (and ultimately the gamma problem when you turn off gammaramp)

Display Mode problem is usually caused by using software or D3D instead of OpenGL, or not having OGL... (and not so much with the resolution, usually)

OpenGL, D3D, even software all give the same result ("This display doesn't support downloadable gam" message, discolored scoreboard, works with cl_gammaramp off but leaves scoreboard a bit dark and hard to read)

puzl gave you the fix satertek. Perhaps your x86 Vista is an issue.

I do not have this problem and cannot replicate it.

All I am saying is that this bug is present when run in Vista, and people are going to start having this problem at the end of next month if it isn't resolved or made clear that gamma ramp needs to be checked off.

I suppose it's possible they <i>could</i> make that setting default, but relatively speaking there'll be quite a small number of Vista systems out there, eh? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />

This is a known problem with NS's overbrightning and 64bit operating systems. That includes vista x86 because Vista is a completely 64 OS that emulates x86. It happens on ATI and Nvidia cards, all drivers. The only fix is for the NS team to update their gamma ramp code to be 64bit compatible. Until then set cl_gammaramp 0 and crank up the gamma with Nvidia Control Panel or ATI CCC.

As JazzX already noted in the bug reports, this is an issue with the drivers and it's not likely there's a fix.

I found a solution to this problem accidentally, and though it probably will not work for everyone, it might point you more specifically to the exact problem. I got this error when I first installed NS on my x64 machine, as I recall, and figured it wasn't worth playing without the sprites and scoreboard this way, so I played it on my laptop. (A sacrifice I'm sure you all can appreciate) but more recently I reinstalled it to find it working perfectly: same drivers, graphics card, computer, the only thing different : I had my old monitor hooked up beside my new one in dual-view. For some reason, I found that the second monitor was the only thing that made it work. So much as unplug it and everything goes to heck. Plug it back in (and playing on the same primary monitor, with the other one showing only my desktop) and NS works fine.

I crank my gamma/brightness/contrast up. When I launch NS it resets it all to default. How I tell is when the screen first loads and I see the NS splash screen its nice and bright. As the game starts to load it goes back to the default dark. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

    Anyone know how to fix?

    <!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->cl_gammaramp "0"
    gamma "3"<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->

Add those lines to your config.cfg file, located (under dafult settings) at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\<account name here>\half-life\ns\config.cfg

Those will disable the gamma ramp, which is causing the problem, and set the gamma to a usable level. They are pulled directly from my own config file, which runs on XP Pro x64, 2x 6600GTs, etc. And they work <a href="http://xs411.xs.to/xs411/07024/NS-screen-x86.jpg" target="_blank">perfectly (link to screenshot taken at 1320GMT on the xs.to hosting server)</a>
