Ok well my computer keeps randomly locking up/freezing and then resetting itself.

Here is what I did

I reinstalled windows and drivers, and it did not fix the problem

I also thought it could of been a RAM/memory error so i changed out my RAM with a different RAM and it still didnt fix this problem

and as a side note, my computer only crashes when im doing anything BUT playing computer games, while im playing computer games it does NOT crash, but if im doing anything in windows it does.. which made me to believe it isnt a problem with my video card or with windows since i did a can reinstall of that... so is it a hardware problem or what? Any suggestions/help would totally be appriciated!

I had a problem that sounds like that. Windows informed me that it was my video card drivers. Made sense, because it didn't do it before I upgraded the drivers.

What changes did you make to it before it had the problem?

Its been doing it for awhile now, so I cant remember correctly if it was after updated video card drivers or not, but I have ATI RAdeon 9800XT with the latest video card drivers.

I'll try rolling back to a older version of the drivers and find out if that helps, thanks for taking the time to try and help!

    Video drivers it is not.

I'm placing bets on a dodgy motherboard or CPU. If you've reinstalled windows already, theres no reason why it should continue crashing/resetting unless a piece of hardware has gone squiffy.

    But yeah, mobo most likely.

well Talesin_bat has fixed my problem for me

    apparently it was my videocard.

I had fast write enabled and Talesin_Bat informed me fastwrite causes a lot of crashs and told me to disable it so i did, and ive been crash free so far! woot

well i spoke to soon and my computer crashed again, but i had also forgotten to disable fast write in the bios setup sooo now that ive done that also ill have to wait and see if that fixes it.

    i also noticed another thing
in my bios it shows my ram clock speed only at 200mhz but my ram is a 400mhz stick alas i tried a different 400mhz ddr ram to make sure my ram wasnt bad and it still is only showing up as 200mhz any suggestions to this?

That is 400mhz, 200mhz two ways.

Does it say? - Type: DDR400
    Speed: 200mhz

There are programs you can download to check the speed to make sure, CPUID and CBID(amd chips only) but, I wouldn't think your motherboard would change the norm and show the double way speed of the ram, only the single way speed of the ram.
