Well it's in the "Third Party" list when you browse the Store. Apart from that, it's never going to happen. In fact, I don't think any game you don't own doesn't show in "My Games"
If it was in "My Games List" You realize how many people will start playing it. Its just that not many people no about it. If not the majority. I bet only like 5% of steam users ever heard about NS.
Also, if it stays free, then it will get flooded no joke.

I'll try to set the rumours straight, and hopefully not create more.
We worked with valve to get NS working on Steam. We playtested 'Valve Test App #120' on steam, and fixed all the code related issues. The code changes required were relatively simple, but there were a lot of them. The Valve developers that assisted us were extremely helpful, and the whole experience was very exciting.
Valve have been amazingly helpful to us as a mod team, to this day we still get direct support from then on issues we encounter with the goldsrc engine. strong business case. In the end, they decided that distributing a HL mod for free on steam would not benefit steam, and I can see exactly what they were thinking. Even though I was dissapointed at the time, I totally understand their decision, and the lessons we learned as a team will serve us well when the next iteration of the NS universe is developed <b>for</b> the steam platform.
I've always been a huge fan of steam, and I've always wanted to see NS distributed on My Games, but unfortunately, wanting something doesn't make it happen.

Before valve updated the steam client, all the available games showed in 'My Games' but the ones you didn't have installed were faded out. So, historically, the discussion has been about getting NS on 'My Games', whereas now the discussion should be about getting NS distributed from steam content servers or something.
and i guess getting it distributed by steam would cost you money
and the fact that you dont get any money for more players makes that highly unlikely i guess :/
i guess it is a secret how much valve wants to distribte games via steam? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />

It's not a secret. They take a 60/40 split, meaning they take 40% of profit and the developer takes 60%. This is extremely favourable, because traditional publishers give developers a LOT less than 60%.
At least, 60/40 used to be the split. This may have changed, and high profile studios might have negotiated better deals. On the other hand, considering how much traditional publishers take, 60/40 would look extremely attractive to even a major high profile studio.
Valve does/did also advertise NS along with a whole stack of mods some time ago too. Appeared as a news update and browseable tab so it isn't like Steam users don't know about NS. They just stick to the current big communities such as CS.
Don't forget that NS also has a rather steep learning curve. I kinda wonder whatever happened to all those tutorial ideas that were proposed in the past...

Can you tell us heathen why exactly it wouldn't benefit steam?
Because Valve would get constant complaints and requests for tech support from people who don't understand that a Half-Life mod distributed over Steam by Valve under Valve's list of games actually isn't supported by Valve. In addition, it would imply favoritism and implicit support of 3rd party mods above and beyond what Valve is prepared to provide, and it would raise conflicts of interest over advertising 3rd party mods for Valve's games in the same advertising venues as Valve's own products and those of other developers who use Steam. Finally, it would be an implicit endorsement of the 3rd party mod that was avaible through Steam, meaning Valve would be partially accountable for any crazy stuff the mod team pulls, like illicit content hidden in the mod or the attitudes of the developers and their actions within the mod community.
To sum it up: people would get confused, mods which aren't featured would get ###### off, people who pay to get on Steam would get ###### off, and if the people behind the mod do something idiotic, Valve gets the blame.
Edit: The forums are censoring my word that rhymes with "kissed" and starts with a p. Go figure.

the only mods that COULD get mad, are the specialists and MAYBE sven coop and hl rally or digital paintball, I dont think no other mod has the sufficient quality to be on steam...
Right, but try telling them that. Plenty of mod authors would get annoyed that Valve isn't acknowledging their years of hard work, whether or not YOU think they're anywhere near as good as NS. It would just introduce unneeded strife.
