<div class="IPBDescription">For A Non-Functionally-Disabled Person</div>How long in your estimation should it have reasonably taken to get the NS forum back up? Is a year a reasonable amount of time to get a website working?

I'd say that once the original forum got taken down, a placeholder forum should have been put up within one week.

FYI, the forum has been up for a while, just not public.

Placeholder forums would have been kinda weird, I dunno. People would get mad that all the posts they make there go away once the real ones come back, and they'd have to reregister, and all that stuff. It would be kind of confusing.

there were temporary forums at www.readyroom.org and the NS IRC channel was still there, so it wasnt as if people couldnt get into contact at all.

The forums were not really down in the strictest sense of the word for very long. They were only down in the sense that actually matters, namely whether they're publically accessible. A couple of people were able to access the forums almost throughout the entire downtime. Their favourite pastime seemed to be to rebut any claims of the forums still being offline with "I can see them just fine." One must wonder how much time could've been saved if mincing words and splitting hairs actually got things done.

They should have had a backup system in case bad people do their thing... I hope they have a backup system going now, a backup once a week or once every day can be automated even <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Obviously they had backups, or your account and my account and all the posts and just about everything else wouldn't be here right now.

The databse was obviously either intact, properly backed up, or both. The problem was that whatever flaw allowed the hacker entry into the boards still existed, and could apparently not be patched up easily.

I stand corrected! I was going to suggest not only a backup of the database but the site/forums, which obviously had a flaw, my bad <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

    Locked.

Why? Because this has been discussed and simply cried about too much. There was a LOT of work put into bringing the site back online including keeping all original posts from as far back as 04. You should be thanking the people responsible for their hard work, (namely Zoc).

The forums are now live to the public, lets move forward in a positive direction.
