<a href="http://steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=TheShipFreeWeekend" target="_blank">The Ship free weekend</a> just started. I'm downloading at the moment but am quite excited about the game. The original version on HL1 was pretty fun, so I've been waiting for a free trial of the Sourcified adaptation.

Anyone up for a game?

Yeah, I can't wait for this. I enjoyed the HL1 mod, but I'm not ready to drop 20 bucks on such a quirky game without trying it out firs.

Aye, loved the HL mod, only problem with it is people thinking it's a deathmatch :X just killing everyone D: Was a problem in the HL mod, and was also a problem when I played it earlier just now, but I think it might be much worse due to the free weekend <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />.

    however, it's a blast with mates :S

I'll be on for the next few days, my steam nickname is <b>kepano</b>, so perhaps we can find a server and play a little game together.

This game has all the frustration and all the thrill of its namesake HL mod. I had an unlucky streak while adapting , until good karma combined with my revived hunting habits kept bringing me large bounties keeping me #1 until I disconnected.

The vicious Herr von Schlüpeurk is back to haunt your cruise , be very afraid <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

So far I'm enjoying the ship.. of course, so far I've only played Arcade mode while waiting for friends to download it (only to have them cancel the download 75% through) but hey. Its fun <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
What could be more fun than stalking peoples and smashing their heads open with a plastic arm?
Actually going to try to get some online play in today. I'm sure I'm still the only ANeM on the internets, so it shouldn't be hard to find me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

I'm really enjoying this game I must say I was really surprised. It took a few server hops at first to avoid lag monsters, and ones where people talked about as much depressed brick wall. Though once I found myself residing on a friendly server, with people moaning about dying, manically laughing from stabbing you in the eye with a pool cue, or talking to their killer while you stand holding a door shut while they stand outside with a flare gun ready to torch you; it truely is fantastic. I'm tempted, very tempted infact to go all the way and purchase this bad boy :o

sometimes it just takes too long to get to a quarry in the time on some maps for me, making it too slow imo <3 I preferred the original, and I didnt really play that for more than a coupla days so meh <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Downloading, I'm willing to give it a shot... but for 1.5GB, it better knock my socks off, compared to the (extremely buggy) original.

They'd be better off if killing bystanders DECREASED your score (down to zero, so CS-nubs wouldn't end up competing for the biggest negative score, possibly with one 'leeway' kill as everyone makes mistakes on occasion). It'd get the CS idiots to pay attention to something they recognize anyway.

It does decrease your money if you kill somebody who isn't your quarry, and the server can set how many innocents you kill or how much negative money you have until it kicks you.

Which does nothing. CS-idiots are used to being kicked for less.

Perhaps have your ability to use weapons stripped for a certain amount of time, and set as a 'free kill' for the duration. No penalties for killing you, but they still rack up the deaths.

Remember, it's all about the K:D to that kind of player. Not about having fun, which was the original point of the game. :b

Currently 95% downloaded. I'm assuming it handles in-game VoIP? I've grown a little bit spoiled with BF2142 over the last couple weeks.

I have as of yet to find a server that isn't 'kill everybody!'. And the lack of voice is kind of a letdown.

Arcade mode is relatively simplistic, but has been more fun than any of the online games I've jumped into. I'll give it the weekend, but so far it's looking like I'll be getting back a gig and a half of hard drive space come Monday.

On most servers I get whacked by completely random people, they get jailed but *oh noes*. Then I have to find my target all over and gg. there's way too many DMers randomly whacking people then going "LOLZPWNT". It's a good game, there's just too many idiots playing it.

yea it's definitely a game you want to be playing with friends :X as just 1 idiot can really mess it up D:

I thought that friendly fire had taught us that having games where you are capable of killing people but aren't allowed to <b>just don't work.</b> The average gamer doesn't understand that concept. Look at Half-Life 2, you couldn't shoot friendly characters. Now this made sense in some occasions, such as with characters that were important for the storyline, but even that random guy on the couch could not be shot by you. If you took the average gamer and stuck him in the army the MPs would have to terminate him after he went on a shooting rampage around the barracks shooting all his comrades because "I can kill them so they must be enemies."

Just forget it. Programmers are taught that they should always assume that the user is as stupid as possible. If you ask the user to input a number, he will write "What number?" and your program must be able to handle that without crashing. Games have to be similar. If you make it possible for players to ###### the game over, players WILL ###### the game over.

lolfighter has just illuminated why every BF2 server consists of deathmatch at each teams' spawnpoint, and why Natural Selection servers with firendly fire enabled turn into alien vs alien and marine vs marine fragfests.

People firing down with that flamethrower every time they spawned = NOT FUN.

Very fun game, feels like a full featured mod than it does a game... not worth $25 because the novelty wears off and it gets old fast... maybe worth $9.99.

After playing about four sessions (about three hours each) over the last two days, I've got to say that good servers are few and far between, foulmouthed CS morons are prevalent, and people who hide all the weapons as soon as possible are asshats.

Frustrating to have to hike back to the kitchen every time I die, just to wait for a cooking pot to re-spawn, as two people keep moving all the weapons in the game to some unknown cache somewhere on the boat.

Definitely NOT worth $25. At ten bucks I'd consider it.

To be honest I thought the HL1 mod was more fun. I dunno, the maps were better designed. People would congregate in one spot, ussually the party floor or something like that, a place well guarded with cameras. In the source version, people are scattered all over the map, which makes it less of a challenge to kill your quarry, as they will pretty much allways be by themselves anyway.

The needs system doesn't help with this either, it's been dumbed down alot, and I've only once ever got my needs to such a dangerous level that I died because of it. You can simply carry snacks, pills and bags wherever you go, which kinda defeats the entire system.

Didn't miss much. Imagine playing CS deathmatch, but mostly with close contact weapons.
