Within a Deep Forest. A 2D adventure game of sorts. Fun! (and free, so you have no excuse not to at the very least try it.) <a href="http://withinadeepforest.ni2.se/" target="_blank">http://withinadeepforest.ni2.se/</a>

Oh, another game I recommend (to my own thread. o_O) is "Unreal World" It's a bit old, being made in 2000, and what it lacks in graphics... and music... and sound and animation (There's still graphics), it makes up in playability.
The year is... I forget. The bronze age, in a middle-east country. It's hard to explain... but it's like real life, translated into a text-based graphical adventure. You can craft your own weapons... but doing so requires you to chop down wood, forge metal and etc, and to do all that you need the proper tools... it sounds lame, but it's highly, and I mean highly addictive.
<a href="http://www.jmp.fi/~smaarane/urw.html" target="_blank">http://www.jmp.fi/~smaarane/urw.html</a> Don't let the crappy website put you off. The graphics may be half-decent, but the game play is.. unique. You can't find a game that plays like this now-a-days. :/
Oh! And you can hunt animals... or people! Yes. You can eat people. XD It's fun to try and overthrow a village and eat all the babies. o.o Yes, good times.
Edit: Wow! Looks like he's been keeping it updated. 2006. 8D

Yes, Ashlee Simpson and Sk8terboi are in it, but forget the two poos, the rest of the game is solid gold. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Po5HQufYl0o&mode=related&search=" target="_blank">YMCA</a>
Kinda funny how some people love UrW and other people just diss it altogether...like in here:<a href="http://bay12games.com/dawrves" target="_blank">Dwarf Fortress</a>
Quite an interesting game...ASCII graphics though.

Lawl, I read a review on that. Looks awesome. XD Too bad Sid is... savingupforaPS3.
Well, I'm serious - graphics isn't everything - what Dwarf Fortress lacks in graphics it more than makes up for in gameplay. Besides, it's more of two games in one (so far - will be even more in the future) - create and maintain a dwarf fortress and have your dwarves prosper while defending yourself from foes, sieges and monsters (which includes dragons if you're unlucky) and whatnot else, create goods that keeps your dwarves happy or trade it with merchants, create extensive defenses and traps - one favourite being a steam trap in which you can channel lava onto water and steamboil enemies...assuming you have the skills to actually create such a system and not accidentally self-destruct the whole fortress.
Or you can play in adventure mode, create an adventurer and then roam the lands - even visit your own fortresses if you happen to choose to start nearby one which you made.
Learning curve is rather complex, but this is one game in which losing is just as fun as winning for some odd reason. Not many games have that.

Speaking of rogue-likes, I re-got Ragnarok (1992 game, not the nubby Ragnarok online stuff) which has a pretty cool graphical interface (too many goddamn buttons though). Man that game is bleak. But fun! So many different effects/powers/magical stuff/areas etc. that you never will ever ever discover over 30% of the game. <a href="http://members.chello.at/theodor.lauppert/games/ragnarok.htm" target="_blank">Info + screen shot + Download</a> (Freeware)
Although it says it won't run on XP, it works fine on mine :-/ Should work on yours too. Pro-leet tips:
- Viking class is the easiest. - Conjurer is the hardest. - Don't worry if you die too much. Experiment with what scrolls/potions/rings do what. However, the vague names of unidentified scrolls are randomly assigned every time you start. Identify them first before grouping them together. - Your starting class does not dictate your play style much at all. You can change ever ten levels (if you ever get to level 10) - Don't read the scroll of pure evil. - If a weapon grafts itself to your hand, you can use a scroll of destruction to remove it. - Do NOT EVER try to be leet and use a potion of phasing to be able to walk through the impassable mountains. You'll die almost instantly. (I walked one step and got mind blasted by some psionic guy I never saw) - Don't read the scroll of pure evil. - Objects may not work how they should depending on many things. - Some monsters are non-hostile. - Teleportation traps can be beneficial sometimes. - Don't read the scroll of pure evil. - Read the manual for some descriptions of a few items/monsters/potions/scrolls/areas/weapons - Weird Flumes can mutate your physical characteristics (sex/number of fingers/number of eyes/etc.). Or just hurt you a lot. Decide whether these changes will be beneficial before engaging. - If you are being hit by something that isn't there, it's a stalker most likely. They're invisible <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> Try get somewhere with only one direction in which you can be attacked from so you have a better chance. - Scrolls of Extinction can be good and bad. They will exterminate any race you type in. Exterminating humans; though I've never tried, will probably kill you.
I just recently played through <a href="http://beyondgoodevil.com/us/index.php" target="_blank">Beyond Good and Evil</a> and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a 3d action/adventure game, and while it may be a bit short (not to mention a game crippling bug that's only fixable through 3rd party patches) it's definitely fun. You should be able to find it online or in a bargain bin for pretty cheap. I can't wait for a sequel too.
