<div class="IPBDescription">just noticed this</div>12 members are celebrating their birthday today
Seraphic8X(21), mark_nec(26), reeves(21), The_Necroscope(25), Malicious_Dub(24), Mr_Pink1(21), Cousinit1686(20), What-The(18), FreshMeat(32), N3misis(42), Wall_Weasels(17), JellyfisH(17)

happy birthday by the way <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />

but those birthdays seem to indicate a higher average age then in many other forum communities

is there a way to get an average for the whole community?
or do i have to write down every birthday for 365 days from now on? ;D

Take a statistics class or something. A bunch of old people on one day does not imply a bunch of old people on the other 364 days.

    Frankly, the older the better.

We all know what happens when 12 year olds get on forums.

    Right... pjofsky?

Tycho, I've occasionally looked at that birthday list. Most days are somewhat like that.

NS has always appealed to an older demographic. It had something to do with the slower, more deliberate, more tactical, and perhaps most importantly more complicated gameplay NS used to have, which tends to attract older games, where twitchier, more reflex-based (and simpler to grasp) tend to attract younger gamers.

    I joined these forums when I was 12 -_-
And it's my 17th in a few weeks! Worship me!

Most of the birthdays I see down there are 16-30, which is more or less the average male gamer stereotype.
    You guys are so conformist!

Just remember yourself back when you were 12, and compare it to now. I started posting on forums and gaming online at the age of 11. Knowing my 11 year old self as I do, I can't imagine they were thrilled to have me. See what I mean?

I'm <i>glad</i> that NS attracts an older breed of gamer.

Half-Life is rated M for something. I'm still annoyed hearing 11-13 year old talking in NS game.
  • LanfearLanfear Join Date: 2006-11-15 Member: 58615Members
It isn't annoying when they can actually contribute something to said game. Its when they just randomly talk that isn't really furthering any goals of said game that make them annoying.

    Run-ons are fun.

but this might indicate a certain direction ^^

thats why i ask for a forum wide age-statistic ^^

Part of it is also the fact that the initial people who started with NS have grown older, but stayed in touch. There are many familiar faces that began their journey in High school or Jr High, and continued to this day. I'm amazed, that although alot of things that have happened to this community to damage it, there are still many who remain true to the game. That's a testament to how much NS influenced some of us gamers. To this day, NS is the most fun I've ever had in MP online gaming, bar none.

If you take philosophy, it's not the younger people that have the problem; it's you allowing yourself to be bothered by it. And there's a mute button. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Heh, I just turned 18 a couple of months ago. I joined the forums at 14.

    I was an idiot at 14. I'm surprised I've made it this long without a suspension/ban. Hopefully I've cooled down a bit. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

My friend and I were talking about little kids on voice com the other day and we came to the conclusion that nowadays the little punks that play shooters online are ten times more annoying than we ever were when we picked up TFC when Patch 1.0.0.9 came out.

Yeah that's true, younger kids gaming and using the com weren't nearly as annoying as many tend to be now. Though that is somewhat of a generalization and I have heard some very intelligent kids on the com.

Last week, I think, some 10-12 something was chatting in the game. Someone got annoyed of the shiat talking and told the kid to calm down.

Then the kid said "I bet your girlfriend think you suck. What do you think about that. I bet your girlfriend..." and etc something like that. OK, I have no clue what that's supposed to mean. But the tone and the originality, the girlfriend bit came out of nowhere... I laughed so hard.

Unless someone deletes all of the unused accounts, the average age is going to be high just because of how old the forums are.

As far as the internet goes, the NS forums are like a hundred years old!

To answer your question, no. To do so would require <b>ALL</b> members to enter their DOB (which is optional on these fora). Even if that was done there'd be no way of DOB verification.

Yeah. Sometimes little kids can be quite annoying although not all of them are. Met quite a number of mature 12 yr olds. And some of the older people dont really act much older anyways.

I've never heard a kid speaking over the mic in NS.

Maybe the younger generation turn to more fast paced and straight to the point games like CS.
Personally, I quickly grew tired of CS and its repetitive gameplay, so I started playing NS and have never looked back.

To be honest I sometimes think the 'annoying kids' are made by the people who hate them so much.

I remember this young kid being on the alien team and most of the rest of the team treating him rather badly or with disrespect the lil one had done nothing to really deserve.
I was pretty nice to him and taught him the ropes and he seemed fairly glad and polite... then he made a simple mistake that unfortunately foiled a rush our team was about to do and they all started screaming at him.

Despite me trying to keep things on a reign it got too much and the kid left but just before he did he sounded a lot like the kind of kids we all hate to see.
If you treat people a certain way they usually end up acting a certain way.

I think it's wise to be kind first and judgemental second rather than the other way around :/

Let's also not forget that some funny people don't seem to be able to tell the difference between a girl and a young boy on voice-comms sometimes too. XD
