Legend of Zelda Timeline

I just came across this link on another forum.

http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/21/zelda-re...friend-the-end/

Putting some perspective on the whole Legend of Zelda timeline and how events come into place. Considering I've only played the N64, GC, and Wii versions I can't really argue any of the facts but from the games I have played this timeline does seem to make a great deal of sense. There have been some comments so far in Twighlight Princess that had made me wonder just where exactly everything fit in.

Give this video a watch, it's quite interesting.

i think they messed up a little bit on this on the games that follow ocarina

the problem i see is that in the wind waker the world was flooded by the gods because ganon came back and no hero returned.

this would make the most sense to follow after ocarina(young link)-majoras mask-links awakening

edit: and bloo thats a mighty big sig, you might want to change that before it gets busted

At the very least, that got me really hyped for Twilight Princess.

I quite liked it, very informative. Makes me wanna play through from the beggining of the timeline to the current end taking both Hyrule A and Hyrule B paths.

I thought exactly the same thing. Gonna have to go find me some emulators (I stupidly lent the Zelda collector's disc that came with my GameCube to my Uni roommate and haven't seen him since he graduated <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />).

I can't understand why people love to retcon LTTP's timeline placement. It happens before the first Legend of Zelda. Hell, if I remember right it even says so in the freaking manual.

But yes, those guys have a lot of time (and drugs) on their hands.

The problem with Zelda is even the creators change stuff around. I mean, during an interview back before OOT came out, Shiggy was quoted for saying
QUOTE

"Ocarina of Time is the first story, then the original Legend of Zelda, then Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, and finally A Link to the Past. It's not very clear where Link's Awakening fits in--it could be anytime after Ocarina of Time. "

I believe he has also at one point tried to say there is only one Zelda and one Link.
Just face the facts that everything in Zelda is to be considered target for retcons. Nintendo doesn't even know where they are going with this stuff.

At the beginning when it was first created - undoubtedly. The first few games we're most definetly completely unrelated as stand alone games. However as time goes on and the franchise expands, Nintendo probably is putting together more of a timeline towards the games. In my last issue of Nintendo power an interview about Twilight Princess was talking about how there are aspects in the game that people who have played OoT will recognize (such as the Temple of Time and other things that look the same and we're in the past game).

The Wind Waker at the beginning talked about the Hero of Legend which was Link from OoT. So most likely now they are putting some perspective into how the games intertwine and as more of these games come out it will become even more evident.

Link to the Past makes sense if it's several generations after Ocarina of Time. The main focus of LTTP is rescuing the seven maidens and Zelda who are all descendants of the "wise men" who originally sealed Ganon away. Those "wise men" are the sages from Ocarina of Time, and I hear that the GBA remake of LTTP rewrites that opening sequence to read "sages" so that Saria, Ruto, Impa, and Nabooru don't have to be men.

Which is, of course, why the first thing it does is warn that it should be taken with a grain of salt.

Clearly they should be making hilarious jokes about the Legend of Zelda timeline.

cant someone just pull a series of random webpages out of thin air and then explain the timeline to that instead? <3
