would mad if bilebombs(webs, and other slime) were flammable too it could cause a chain reaction of flames and explosions <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

I never really liked this idea from the beginning. The reason is that you either make the weapon too powerful and the teams aren't balanced or you make it too weak so nobody will use it as a weapon (like the welder). Another reason is that nobody would like to stand near a guy with that thing...imagine what happens if ff is on and some newbee has too much fun with it and sets your squad on fire...

NS 1 was fine without a flamethrower and I think NS² will be fine without it too.

    This thread got necro'd.

How do you know that it won't turn out balanced? That shows little faith in the development team.

Anyways, flamethrowers could be a cool addition to NS2. Actually, I played a half-life 2 mod known as "Eternal Silence"...it has a flamethrower, and it's a really cool weapon. You can even spray napalm on the ground with secondary fire, and then light it with your primary. I think it could just as easily work in NS2. Modern flamethrowers work by releasing pressurized, flammable gas so that it passes over an open flame; thus, throwing fire forwards. I'd imagine the marines would have come up with something more sophisticated; such as using plasma.

You can balance anything, the only thing that matters is the game design's fun factor.

Honestly I'd rather see a volumetric "poofy" flame thrower than a jet of fuel. You win on realism, but I'm fairly sure a volumetric wide-spreading flamethrower wins on gameplay.

I wouldn't call it "necroe'd" since this is a thread everybody is refering to from this topic where the last post was made today.

Oh and I do have faith in the devs but not in the people who are stupid and will use the flamethrower later on to set teammates on fire or jerk around with it...

From my point of view it's not an "idiot proof weapon".
